Requirements to become a foster parent
The state requires that foster parents get licensed through their local Department of Social Services or a licensed private agency. These sources will be your best form of support. Through them, you'll receive training and have a point of contact for emergencies.
If you ever have questions, reach out to your case manager. They're trained to assist foster families and the children in their care.
The Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina is a statewide association that recruits new parents, provides training, and offers support. You can find training and webinars online. You can also read parenting tips, find your region, and more.
The National Foster Parent Association is a non-profit that provides training and education. Caregivers can also find free online training through the NFPA.
The NC Division of Social Services (NC DSS) is the agency in charge of overseeing the state's child welfare system. NC Kids assists new foster parents with the early stages of the process. You can find children awaiting adoption and access foster care and adoption support services.
It also helps to form connections with other foster families, especially those with years of experience. You may have questions or need advice from them. It can make you feel like you have someone on your side through your journey.

A "Lighthouse" for many of North Carolina's own kids, as well as students from surrounding states. A truly "special campus". As an employee of Falcon, I've witnessed first hand how this great agency can set students up for success, as they've gone on to UNC, the military, or other endeavors, and students were able to save toward their futures and work toward their own American Dream. During The Covid Pandemic it was so reassuring and refreshing to watch Our Leadership Team never flinch in following Our Great State's Orders and carry out a master plan to protect and put students at ease with clear communication, wise decisions and provisions. Moving our family here to lock arms with this amazing Team was one of the best decisions we have ever made. I love this place! I've heard from students voices how much of a difference FCH has made in their lives! Two Thumbs Up! Way Up!!!

Unfortunate that my two children are there at the moment, however, sincerely unfortunate that since being there they have been forgotten at their schools, one late for work many times, the others glaucoma hasn't been checked and the bribery of gifts to make them want to stay is horrific considering I cannot and should not shower them with gifts everyday so they would not learn to appreciate what is special. With me my children NEVER missed school, work or appointments. I personally feel since I am not meek and mild this agency doesn't care for me yet as it is... "I've been told " don't rock the boat"... Smh🤦🏽♀️... Nothing is more important than family. That is what this facility should be teaching the children. BUT ways to make them stay for the financial gains they earn for having the children there. My children don't feel peace or rescued. They feel used as scapegoats for every need Falcon does till they are bribed with the next gift. I'm just saying... Out of the mouths of babes... Today's visit was cancelled without notifying me or DSS... why and what gives them the right to go against judges orders? Need I say more? I can appreciate that some individuals have had fantastic wonderful experiences there however since my children have been there they've had miserable experiences at least the older child has the younger child of course she's excited and thrilled to get all the gifts that she's bribed with to make her want to stay otherwise they need to be home as they never missed one single thing with me I made sure of it. One bad decision on my part has made them be gone and out of my home ...shame on me but shame on Falcon for turning around every bad thing they've done like leaving my children somewhere for hours or even overnight and they were putting them as runaways when they discover they're not there by the middle of the night... Shame on Falcon!!!

I personally was a resident at this children's homer for about two years and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
