Catholic Family Center
Comprehensive services that support strong families.
Building and strengthening families, as well as individuals within families, is at the very heart of the support Catholic Charities provides to children and their parents and guardians.
From adoption services to early intervention to help keep families together, to foster care for youth from all over the world fleeing abuse, neglect, and violence. All of our services and programs are focused on helping families build, strengthen, and achieve their full potential.
Our mission: We walk with the most vulnerable as they journey toward independence, with dignity, to reach their full human potential. As a member of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester, we advocate for those in need throughout every stage of life and work in partnership with faith communities of all denominations and with those who are committed to addressing local needs.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Raising foster children is a rewarding and life-changing experience. You can make a real difference in a child's life, helping them on a path toward success.
Remember that fostering affects the whole family, so talk to your partner and biological children if you're considering this journey. Learn more about what to expect and ensure it fits your lifestyle. You must be healthy and have enough time and energy to care for a child and meet their needs. This is important for gaining foster parent approval because every child must have this foundation of support.
Each state has requirements for foster parents. In New York, applicants must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Live in a safe and stable environment
- Have enough space for a foster child
- Show financially stability
- Prove that all family members are in good health
- Pass a background check
- Clear a home safety inspection
- Attend required foster parent training
- Complete the Home Study process
- Provide a minimum of three character references
Foster families in New York can rent or own their homes. Adults can become foster parents no matter their marital or divorce status. All adults who are living in the home with foster children must pass the New York required criminal background check. Every adult must complete both state and federal background checks and undergo fingerprinting.
Interested candidates can make the first call to foster services and get the approval and licensing process started. Contact the New York Office of Children and Family Services (NYOCFS) or your local Department of Social Services (DSS). The first step after expressing interest will be to attend a foster orientation. Potential foster parents can learn about the approval process at the event and get questions answered by a foster child advocate.
The foster parent training requirement begins with pre-service training. After getting licensed, foster parents must participate in ongoing training and educational programs.

Kudos to Catholic Family Center for their involvement in the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative and their leadership role in a new anti-poverty pilot program As poverty continues to grow in our community, CFC is one organization the is committed to breaking the cycle.

M Mary,. I TOTALLY agree with you!! They ruined my life through adoption also. Now they take absolutely no responsibility for their actions. In my opinion they play God with no thought of the consequences to an innocent child. I think the total lack of compassion for the people whose lives they have ruined is appalling . I wish I could contact you to compare notes!

The most abusive company I have EVER dealt with. My lawyer (who works only on Medicaid cases) told me that he is well aware of the problems with CFC and that they are the worse organization in the industry. Abuse and Bad Information is their norm. Avoid at all cost, these people will scream at there customers, and their bad decisions can cost you a ton of money, time and aggravation. Use ANYONE else.
I may have to declare bankruptcy's because they wouldn't return messages or phones calls. I paying money too leave CFC but they have allot of my money and wont pay the bills & purchases they claimed they would pay. Our worker doesn't return calls, can't get in touch with a supervisor, and the last time I did I found out that she just told my worker to call me and yell at me. She commonly screams at me. I filed a complaint with law enforcement for abuse, they also have multiple claims on record.
I got a new Rep-payee. Unsurprisingly, he also thinks CFC is the worse company in the business. Its not surprising because all indications point to a very negative corporate culture.
As for the positive reviews, its clear that a few of them are getting paid for 5 stars. I have reported these reviews as they violate the terms. I have read what many of their former employees say about working at CFC, and none of it has been positive.
