Good Shepherd Catholic Service for Children
Children enter foster care for many reasons – poverty, abuse, neglect, but never because of their own choice. Do you have room in your heart to be a Good Shepherd foster family?
There are a variety of services and support available to foster families. Our Fostering Faithful Families ministry reaches out to churches in the hopes of educating the community about the needs of children in foster care.
The process of becoming a foster or adoptive parent usually takes a minimum of 4 months.
Connecting children with families and keeping families connected by providing pregnancy and parenting support, foster care programs, and adoption services.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Foster parents receive a maintenance payment to help cover some of the care costs of raising a child. The rate parents receive varies depending on the child's age and their special needs. Foster children also receive a clothing allowance, covering their medical needs.
The Missouri Department of Social Services website shows you the latest rates.
However, these maintenance payments aren't always enough. Everything from school supplies to toys can cut into that budget. Many businesses and organizations are stepping up to help cover the gaps and assist foster families.
Foster Together provides a walk-in shopping service for foster children free of charge. Kids can find new and like-new clothing, toys, car seats, and more.
Foster parents caring for younger children can look to Nurses for Newborns, which provides health assessments, screenings, education, and more support.
Another valuable resource is respite care, which gives foster parents a break when needed. Respite foster care is a temporary service offered by other trained foster families. It's also useful in the event of an emergency situation.

Good Shepherd was a wonderful agency to work with in our adoption journey. We had our homestudy completed and received placement through this agency. We loved that they are a family services agency with a holistic approach to adoption.

Good Shepherd has been wonderful to work with! I am walking through the adoption process as a single person. After being turned away from another local agency because I was not married, I found Good Shepherd. Melyssa has been a joy to work with through the home study and other parts of the process - she is both professional and personal. I am currently on the waiting families list - I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with this agency so far!

We recently completed our third adoption and had a great experience. Melyssa was available to answer all our questions along the way. We have an open adoption and feel they treated our birth family with the respect they deserve. In our experience, their actions proved that they care about both the adoptive family and the birth family.

We are an awaiting family with Good Shepherd for about 4 months now. Good Shepherd worked with us as we needed to move adoption agencies quickly as the one we were with closed the adoption program. They helped us get started quickly.
