It can be hard to find factual information on the internet about adoption, the process, local agencies and what to expect. At Adoption Minnesota, a local agency in MN, we help you understand the process, answer your questions, and help you create an adoption plan that is right for you and your baby.

Since we are a local agency based in Minnesota, we can travel to you and meet in your home or community in person. We often meet clients in a coffee shop or restaurant that is near their home. We feel that it is important that you are supported as you make this very difficult choice. Our counselors are here to explain each step along the way.

Adoption Minnesota, an adoption agency near you, helps you find an adoptive family, has you meet with an attorney, at no cost to you, so you understand your rights and assists you in creating a plan for openness after placement. We are here to make the process of giving up your baby for adoption as smoothly as possible.

Requirements to become a foster parent

There are several support services available for foster parents in Minnesota. Let's take a look at what's available:

Support Payments

Minnesotan foster parents receive a monthly basic payment to help with the care costs of the foster child. Payments vary depending on the child's age and circumstances. They start at $650 per month.

In some circumstances, foster parents can also receive a difficulty of care supplemental monthly rate. These payments help support children with physical and mental difficulties and can be up to $1,500 per month.

Medical and Dental Coverage

In Minnesota, foster children receive Medicaid coverage for their medical and dental needs.

The foster parents are responsible for arranging the child's medical care and must attend all necessary appointments to maintain their health and well-being.

Training and Support Groups

There are plenty of support groups and resources available for foster parents in Minnesota. These services offer ongoing support and an opportunity to share experiences with other people in the same situation as you.

Additional training can also help you be the best caregiver possible for your foster kid.

Choosing to work with Adoption Minnesota was one of the best decisions my husband and I have ever made! When we made the decision to adopt, the thing that mattered the most to us was finding an agency where the birth parents and the adoptive parents were treated with kindness and respect. We found that (and much more!) in Adoption Minnesota!

The thing we loved most about Adoption Minnesota was the staff. They are kind, responsive, and knowledgeable. From the first orientation session we went to, we knew that everyone at Adoption Minnesota was there to support both the birth parents and the adoptive parents. I think every staff member played a role in our adoption in some way, and we only have wonderful things to say about each individual.

Something that really attracted us to Adoption Minnesota is that there are birth parent counselors who work with the birth parents and separate adoptive parents counselors who work with the adoptive parents. Having different people support each party really made us feel comfortable sharing with our counselor, and hopefully the same was true for our daughter’s birth family.

Adoption Minnesota’s program was also great. Going through the adoption process can be confusing and overwhelming, but Adoption Minnesota’s program lays out a number of steps that you need to take, they provide you with great resources and educational materials, and they guide you through each step of the process. My husband and I always felt like we understood what we needed to do to move forward in the process, we had a clear idea of the timeframe and finances involved, and we knew the staff could answer any questions we had.

As a part of the program, Adoption Minnesota hosts a number of classes to guide you through the adoption process. These classes were invaluable. Throughout the classes, you hear from both birth parents and adoptive parents who have already been through the adoption process. While every adoption is different, it was really informative to hear other adoption stories to help us understand what our adoption could look like and what we were comfortable with in an adoption. Other classes were taught by the Adoption Minnesota staff to provide education to adoptive parents, and we learned so much from the knowledgeable staff during these classes.

Adoption Minnesota not only helped us grow our family with the addition of our wonderful daughter, but also helped us develop a relationship with our daughter’s birth family. For that we will be forever thankful. We cannot wait to work with Adoption Minnesota again in the future!

I began working with Adoption Minnesota about 9 years ago when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I promise that if you choose to work with this agency, you are making connections and gaining a support system that will last a lifetime! I still to this day have dinner with my social worker, and role model, every once in a while. I one day I hope to even call her a colleague. This agency cares so much, not only about the adoptive families, but about the birth mothers (and families) as well. I would 100% recommend working with them if you find yourself needing their services

We had an amazing experience with Adoption MN. From the moment we walked in, we knew this was the agency we wanted to help us become parents. Their professionalism and ongoing support has been exceptional. Thank you Adoption MN for changing our lives in the best possible way!

Adoption MN was a blessing for our family. Adoption is expensive, and those expenses are variable (and subject to many, many factors!), and Adoption MN did their best to give honest information on costs and what to expect. Our adoptive parent counselor was available all the time - even answering the phone on Super Bowl Sunday! Our birth-mother's experience was equally great (as she has shared with us through our ongoing relationship); she felt no pressure, was present with multiple options throughout the process, and got support even after the adoption was finalized. For our family, the small and intimate feel of the Adoption MN staff was what we needed to keep going through failed matches in order to build our forever family!

The only reason I gave it one star was because Kathi was a great social worker! If it was a review for Kathi, she would get 5 stars!! However the agency itself we are not happy with.
LaDonna (the receptionist) was unpleasant from the beginning on the phone. When my husband went to bring in the paperwork, he wasn’t treated nicely at all. When they had a problem receiving faxes, LaDonna blamed it on the hospitals sending it to them. Then she said to send them to the office across the hall to later find out that they already do share a fax machine; also she apparently didn’t realize there was no paper in the tray to receive them (the actual problem). She admitted to hearing the fax machine going off multiple times with error sounds, but didn’t get up to check it out, so instead I had to call her multiple times to get it all figured out. The nurses I was dealing with sending the faxes were way more helpful than LaDonna.
When I was told to mail things to them, I had to call and ask what address to mail it to because their business cards were so outdated that the one they gave us had the wrong address (paperwork had a different address then the business card). Nobody wants their confidential papers going to the wrong address!
When I asked in person at the agency for a receipt for the payment I gave, LaDonna acted annoyed and said we only email one if people ask; then she must have forgotten to email it as I had to email her days later after never receiving one.
Another reason we are not happy at all with this agency is that it took them 3 weeks after the homestudy was supposed to be to our attorney for them to get it to her. When you are paying thousands of dollars for people to work for you they should be able to proofread for common spelling errors in their written report (not have you) and be more efficient. This company holds you and your attorney up which costs you a lot of money (from them and the attorney as well).
We were called by the manager and apologized to, but never were offered a discount or money back
or anything. Anywhere else that you go and get service like this or something doesn’t work out like it’s supposed to, you get something in return; not here, still made us pay full price for the bad quality of service.
The professionalism in this company is lacking. I would not recommend Adoption Minnesota.
