Requirements to become a foster parent
There are several support services available for foster parents in Minnesota. Let's take a look at what's available:
Support Payments
Minnesotan foster parents receive a monthly basic payment to help with the care costs of the foster child. Payments vary depending on the child's age and circumstances. They start at $650 per month.
In some circumstances, foster parents can also receive a difficulty of care supplemental monthly rate. These payments help support children with physical and mental difficulties and can be up to $1,500 per month.

Throughout the entire adoption process, Adoption Minnesota provided top notch support to all parties of the adoption triad: birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptee(s). They are truly invested in ensuring hopeful adoptive parents are educated on the complexities of adoption, and we learned so much from them and their vast experience. Most importantly, they go above and beyond to emotionally support and assist birth parents before, during, and well beyond the adoption process. For us, that was a key differentiator relative to other adoption agencies we considered. We are grateful we chose them, and we highly recommend connecting with them if you’re considering adoption or placement.

Adoption MN has been the BIGGEST blessing to me... They have been nothing short of amazing throughout my entire experience as a birth mother.
I had soooo many questions and worries and emotions while I was searching for an adoptive family for my daughter... My adoption counselor, Kim, has been there for me EVERY step of the way. She has been beyond kind, compassionate, understanding, supportive and encouraging. I consider her a very close and special friend in my life.
Each member of the staff at Adoption MN treated me with a great deal of respect and love. I never ONCE felt judged or insecure about mt decision to place my daughter for adoption. The entire process was very reassuring and helpful in me finding peace with my decision.
I'm forever grateful for Kim, the adoptive family I found, and the organization as a whole. If anyone is considering adoption I would recommend Adoption MN to anyone and everyone.

When my husband and I started our adoption journey, we looked at several different agencies but when we left the orientation session at Adoption Minnesota, I think we both knew in our hearts that this was the agency for us and the reason was simple: the staff.
Through the orientation session, it became very clear to us that this was more than a job to their staff members. Each of them had their own experiences with adoption and their heart and passion for adoption was very evident.
We matched in March of 2021 after nearly 4 years of waiting. The most difficult part was waiting because to be frank there is very little communication during the wait period (aside from your annual renewals). However, the agency did an excellent job of preparing us for that. I remember very vividly as we were going through the home study process being told that it was a lot of hurry up and wait and that was in fact what it was. Any time I reached out to staff though, I received a quick response. Our counselor was able to help us vet a number of situations and gave us advice on how to approach even out of state situations where the agency involvement would be less. Their staff was able to take the very complex laws surrounding adoption and explain the process clearly and in a way we could easily understand. When we did match, we felt like we knew exactly what the steps would be and the experience was exactly how they explained it would be.
Ethical adoption was HUGE to us. My husband and I both have such a heart for our birth mom and it was really important to me that I didn't feel like I was stealing someone's child. The agency has specific counselors designated for birth parents that are different than the counselors working with the hopeful adoptive families and I think this is so important to keeping an adoption ehtical. They are very strict about adoptive families communicating with birth parent counselors too to help respect and keep that important boundary. Our birth mom had nothing but positive things to say about her experience with her counselor and even just as recently as a month ago, our birth parent counselor checked in with our birth mother- well over a year after placement! To me, this shows that agency genuinely cares about the birth parents they work with.
In short, what really stands out about Adoption Minnesota is their staff. They are passionate about adoption and making sure adoption is done right for all parties involved. They care both about the adoptive families they work with as well as birth parents. If my husband and I choose to adopt a 2nd time, there is no doubt that we will return to them. We are forever thankful for their part in helping our family receive the greatest gift we could ever ask for!

Our experience with Adoption MN was nothing short of incredible. The staff is deeply passionate about adoption and have a lot of experience. The agency has a fantastic onboarding program so adoptive parents know exactly what to expect while waiting to be chosen. The wait to be chosen can be really difficult but the Agency does a great job with equipping adoptive parents with the tools to pass the time.

The women I have gotten the opportunity to work with are absolutely incredible. They have all truly cared more than almost any person I have experienced. They have been so supportive and caring for my goals, and I can never thank any of them enough. Adoption Minnesota wants the best for you and your child, always.
