Who We Are…
Christian Home Association-Children’s Square U.S.A. is a private, non-profit, non-denominational organization with a history of caring for children and families for 140 years.
Every day, over 1000 children, youth, and families in Iowa and Nebraska who have behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric needs are served through programs that include counseling, emergency services for children, early childhood care, foster care, and residential treatment and education for children with serious emotional and behavioral disorders.
We work to help recognize and treat the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of each child we serve. Our programs strive to help children and families learn the life skills essential to a successful life.
Children’s Square U.S.A. is fully licensed and accredited. With an annual operating budget of $10 million and 150 employees, we offer programs and services 24 hours a day,
7 days a week. Our main campus is in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and an office in Omaha, Nebraska, offers counseling and foster care programs.
Founded on December 23, 1882, and incorporated in March 1883, Children’s Square U.S.A. has a rich history of caring for children from birth to 21 and their families, meeting their individualized needs, instilling hope, and helping restore lives.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many new parents are worried they'll be on their own if they decide to foster. That's not true; you have tons of support on your side.
You have the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). Your local DHS recruits and approves families for fostering and adoption. They also place children with approved parents.
The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association has handbooks, contact phone numbers, information on training and case plans, useful PDFs for foster parents, and more online.
You also have your local child-placing agency for assistance. They're licensed and approved to train parents and place children in homes. You can find information on how to navigate the legal system or tips for working with birth parents, for example.
Many state non-profits dedicate themselves to assisting foster youth and the families caring for them. They may help with basic care, such as clothing or food, or educate parents on specific topics.

Back in 1996 I was 15 years old when I was there. Now I am 35 years old. Great program! I often think about this place. Really changed my life for the better. I was an out of control teenager and was put in there by my parents, probation officer and courts. Program was suppose to take 18 months. I graduated in 6 months. Miss the staff.
