Who We Are…
Christian Home Association-Children’s Square U.S.A. is a private, non-profit, non-denominational organization with a history of caring for children and families for 140 years.

Every day, over 1000 children, youth, and families in Iowa and Nebraska who have behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric needs are served through programs that include counseling, emergency services for children, early childhood care, foster care, and residential treatment and education for children with serious emotional and behavioral disorders.

We work to help recognize and treat the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of each child we serve. Our programs strive to help children and families learn the life skills essential to a successful life.

Children’s Square U.S.A. is fully licensed and accredited. With an annual operating budget of $10 million and 150 employees, we offer programs and services 24 hours a day,

7 days a week. Our main campus is in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and an office in Omaha, Nebraska, offers counseling and foster care programs.

Founded on December 23, 1882, and incorporated in March 1883, Children’s Square U.S.A. has a rich history of caring for children from birth to 21 and their families, meeting their individualized needs, instilling hope, and helping restore lives.

We are a diverse organization of professional caregivers dedicated to serving children and families. We welcome you to explore our website to learn more about our services, how you can help, employment opportunities, and most importantly—how we serve children and families.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many new parents are worried they'll be on their own if they decide to foster. That's not true; you have tons of support on your side.

You have the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). Your local DHS recruits and approves families for fostering and adoption. They also place children with approved parents.

The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association has handbooks, contact phone numbers, information on training and case plans, useful PDFs for foster parents, and more online.

You also have your local child-placing agency for assistance. They're licensed and approved to train parents and place children in homes. You can find information on how to navigate the legal system or tips for working with birth parents, for example.

Many state non-profits dedicate themselves to assisting foster youth and the families caring for them. They may help with basic care, such as clothing or food, or educate parents on specific topics.

Is there less than a 1 star? They sent my daughter home after barely 4 days of treatment with no meds, no supports in place. They did absolutely nothing for her. After all the work and referrals to place her there. This place is a joke!

Super disappointed with their residential facility, i went there for less then a week due to physical health problems i spent most my time in the er, my last er visit children's square discharged me. Until i was " physically cleared " with nothing in place no therapy, no meds, no nothing. Originally the plan was to return when cleared, i got cleared a few weeks ago, and now havent heard a word from children's square about returning. Have left me clueless on what to do and am at an all time low. Stress level high because they cant do the littlest thing and respond to my mom whether its a yes we are accepting her back or no were not so they have left us clueless and answerless. Very disappointed.
