Helping an expectant mom with an unintended pregnancy is a delicate and vulnerable process. Emotions are high, and no one wants to say anything that would make her feel ashamed or judged. What’s most important is to broach the subject of options in a way where she feels safe and fully supported.
ASC is a licensed child placement agency in the state of Indiana.

We offer lifelong support for expectant moms, birth moms, and adoptive parents — before, during, and after placement. We help all parties set boundaries, build their relationship, and work through the grief that accompanies placement. We look forward to talking with you.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Foster parents in Indiana have access to a variety of services and support. These services include:

Support Payments

As a foster parent, you will receive a daily payment from DCS to help cover the costs of caring for a foster child. The amount varies depending on the age and needs of the child, but payments start at $18.88/day.

Foster parents are also eligible for an initial clothing expense payment of up to $200.00 and an Annual Personal Allowance of up to $300.00 per child per year. This payment becomes available when the child has been in placement for at least eight days.

Additionally, DCS provides a Special Occasion Allowance of up to $50.00 on
child’s birthday and during the December holidays.

Medical and Dental Coverage

In Indiana, children in foster care are entitled to receive Medicaid coverage for their medical and dental needs.

However, it is the responsibility of the foster parents to schedule and attend all medical and dental appointments for the child. This means that foster parents must make sure that the child receives proper medical care and attends all necessary appointments to maintain their health and well-being.

Training and Support Groups

Foster parents have access to ongoing training and support groups to help them navigate the challenges of fostering. Support groups provide a space for foster parents to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of fostering.

Indiana Foster Care Statistics and Outcomes

Understanding the statistics and outcomes of foster care in Indiana can help you better understand the need for foster parents in the state.

As of 2021, there were over 13,000 children in foster care in Indiana. However, there are only 6,200 licensed foster parents. Most children in Indiana foster care are between ages 8 and 16. On average, they stayed an average of 14.3 months in foster care.

Sadly, children who exit foster care have a higher likelihood of experiencing homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration than their peers who did not experience foster care.

As a foster parent, you can help break this cycle. You could inspire troubled child to excel and reach their true potential.

My husband and I would highly recommend ASC for assisting in your adoption. From start to finish and even now, 1 year later, they are helpful, knowledgable, and never make you walk the journey alone. We also very much appreciated how much they loved and cared for our birth mom. Watching the relationship our coordinator and her had warmed our hearts and gave us even more confidence in them. When we adopt again, we will certainly be using ASC!

We worked with ASC to adopt our child. From the very beginning the staff was open and honest with us. They laid out the reality of the situations we could face and always advocated for the birth moms and their baby as they are considering a adoption plan. They offer support to the birth moms long after choosing an adoption plan for their child. Their staff even goes above and beyond to help those birth moms struggling with addictions to get the help they need to overcome. If we ever choose to adopt again, I would definitely use the agency again. We suggest them to any one we know who is considering adoption. We truly feel they are the best in the area for advocating for all who are involved. They work with excellent lawyers who help ensure you understand everything legally leading up to the adoption. The staff becames like family to you throughout the process!

When we started to consider adoption as a way to grow our family, several friends referred us to Adoption Support Center and we never looked back. One thing that drew us to ASC was their obvious care for their birth mothers. We wanted to make sure that, whoever our birth mother turned out to be, she would be honored and cared for during and after the adoption process, and we have not been disappointed. The ASC staff have been wonderful every step of the way. Our daughter is now 15 months old and is a huge blessing to our family, we can't imagine life without her. She has two birth siblings, also adopted through ASC. We keep in touch not just with her birth mom and grandparents, but also with her two siblings and their adoptive families. We confidently recommend ASC to any families and birth mothers who might be considering adoption!

Everyone at ASC was kind, compassionate and empathetic. We can never thank them enough for helping us find not only our daughter, but an extended family in her birth parents.
