Kemmerer Village provides community-based services for children and adolescents, ages 0 – 21 years. For a variety of reasons, these young people need an alternative home environment with the added support of professional casework, and case management services. Our various programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation and licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
The Kemmerer Village Community Services staff performs the licensing and ongoing monitoring of the foster homes in which our children are placed. Our foster parents undergo thorough screening via an application process, background checks, and Home Studies. Our foster parents also receive extensive training prior to having their first child placed with them. We currently provide these services to over 100 foster homes, spread throughout the counties of: Christian, Shelby, Montgomery, Fayette, Macon and Moultrie. Our professional staff and foster parents are dedicated to, and experienced at, providing a safe, nurturing home environment allowing the opportunity for the child to flourish.

Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Illinois. To become a foster parent, you must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Attend foster parent orientation
- Pass a background check
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete the Home Study
- Provide at least three references
- Clear a physical exam
- Maintain financial stability
Foster families must be able to provide a safe and comfortable home for a child. You must provide room for the child to have a bed and enough space for personal belongings.
Foster parents do not need to be married or have a partner. However, if married, couples must show a stable marriage of at least one year before they can foster a child in Illinois.
Foster parents need to meet a child's basic care needs, such as providing meals and clothing. Foster families must also support a foster child's education and assist them in developing social skills.

Kemmerer Village will hire anybody they can get their hands on as staff. Half the staff don’t even stay more than a month or two after being hired.

I was a resident here about a year ago. Some of the staff were very physically and emotionally abusive, and actually harmed me from getting my treatment. I would never wish anyone to go here

i work here and I get to see kid's lives changed for the better every day. They are offered individualized care, therapy, and experiences that many children in their situations don't get in their every day lives. Working at Kemmerer Village is a blessing!
