Nightlight Foster Care Advocates intentionally maintain a small caseload, allowing us to be attentive to helping you navigate your state foster care agency program.
Friendly, educated and ministry-minded staff members provide you with emotional and spiritual support as a foster parent before, during and after your placement.
We host year-round events, both fun and educational, for our foster parents and foster kids. When you choose to work with Nightlight, you become part of an extended support family.

Requirements to become a foster parent
The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.
Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.
There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.
One of the best ways to become a better parent, whether you plan on fostering a child short-term or adopting, is to read as much as you can about Georgia's foster system. For instance, recently proposed bills would help to streamline parts of the state's foster care placement system.
You can find plenty of information available online for free as well. Blogs, podcasts, and videos are all incredibly useful ways to obtain new information about fostering.

We love Nightlight—their mission, their people, and their heart to see all children home. They support birth families, adoptive families, and foster families not as a means to an end, but as an investment that builds and strengthens relationships in all of these families who impact the lives of precious children. Because it matters to God, it matters to Nightlight as they steward the gifts and talents the Lord has given them. Lexie, specifically, has been amazing. She has walked us through each step of the way and always been an encouraging and kind voice throughout the entire journey in uncharted territory for us. We are thankful for her beyond measure and grateful we are with Nightlight to help us navigate our family story.

We used Nightlight for our daughter's adoption. Nightlight was beyond amazing. They worked hard to make sure our daughter's adoption went as smoothly as possible. They are ethical and compassionate, caring for all involved in our daughter's situation. I give Nightlight my highest recommendation.

My family had a wonderful experience working with Nightlight Christian Adoptions for our home study process. They were always very helpful, answered all of our questions quickly, and made the process much easier than we had anticipated. The interviews were always relaxed and enjoyable. We actually looked forward to their meetings with us. They are great people that love what they do. I 100% recommend this agency!

After narrowing down our search of adoption agencies in our local area, we were so blessed to make the decision to choose Nightlight in Athens, GA! One of my favorite things about Nightlight is the care they devote to giving to the birth mothers they serve. They are available to them at any hour of the day, and provide support both before and after placement. It was so important to my husband and I to know that our son’s birth mother was being cared for so well. And that same level of care is extended to the adoptive families nightlight works with. They have impeccable response time to emails and phone calls, are always willing to answer questions, and go above and beyond to serve us as well. Many people ask, “How long did it take?” - that timing is fully controlled by God, but throughout our Homestudy process, the Nightlight staff never slowed our process . The speed was totally up to us. I’m such a type A personality, I think I fill out our application in record time! Haha and as soon as I completed the next round of the homestudy, they’d be right back with me providing the next steps! We never felt in the dark with Nightlight and always felt informed. If you want a small family feel to your adoption agency combined with professionalism of any outstanding organization, choose Nightlight!
