Florida's adoption initiative aimed at promoting the benefits of public adoption. Explore Adoption urges families to consider creating or expanding their families by adopting a child who is older, has special needs, or is a part of a sibling group. Through public education, expanded partnerships, and social media, Explore Adoption invites Floridians to learn more about the children immediately available for adoption in their home state and community.

Adoption provides unique opportunities to change children's lives and enrich the life of the adoptive parent or family that welcomes them in. Adopting one of Florida's children from foster care offers many special benefits.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Prove good health and ability to care for a child
  • Maintain a stable income
  • Pass a background screening
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete a Home Study

The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

If you have a local office save yourself the trouble and go in because the phone service is terrible, Currently on Hold for 2 HOURS!!! waiting to speak to someone , I hear " we're sorry, all of our representatives are still assisting other callers please have your access number or case number ready, for the next available representative your call is important to us" in my sleep, and dont even get me started on if the rep you are lucky to speak to is having a bad day you will get almost no assistance what so ever.

Highly unprofessional. Disgusting attitude over the phone. Always refusing to help someone or answer a question properly. Your fate of government assistance is in the hands of these people who care less about the community. If they don’t like you, they will make sure you don’t receive assistance. Have called multiple times after being yelled at “I won’t help you”, and hung up on, and no one in the office is answering their phones. THEY NEED A WHOLE NEW STAFF SINCE THIS STAFF HATE THEIR JOBS !
