Bethany Christian Services
Being a foster parent is so much more than loving a child in your home. It’s also showing kindness to a family when they need it most.
It’s giving a child a safe place to land during a hard, scary time when they’re away from home. And it’s showing compassion to a parent who is likely overwhelmed, scared, and without a lot of support.
It’s helping a child stay connected to the only home they’ve ever known, in whatever way it’s safe to do so, and cheering on a family that’s living out a comeback story.
At Bethany, our heart beats for family. We want to see families strong, supported, and together. But we know there are times when families face challenges—and children need care.
That’s why we’re seeking foster parents who believe in families too.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

We had an excellent experience with Bethany. The training they offered to us before we were an approved waiting family was wonderful and eye-opening. My favorite part was getting to hear from all members of the adoption-triad. Hearing stories from all sides and perspectives was so unbelievably helpful and awakening.
Bethany really took the time to make sure we understood adoption, what it means for the adoptee, birth family and adoptive parents. This was evident in the training as well as the home study period. We would highly recommend Bethany!

Bethany was such a blessing to us during the adoption process. Specifically our adoption specialist. She feels like family to us! She walked with us through processing every situation presented to us, a failed adoption and finally bringing our daughter into our lives. We are planning to working with them again in just a short 6ish months! We also are so grateful for the amount of education the not only encourage but require. It helped us feel as equipped as possible for this journey.

We we're with Bethany for three years trying to adopt. We never felt like we had any help, or support. We started off in the international program, but could not find the $50,000 it would cost to adopt that way. They told us to switch to the domestic program because we would be a better fit for that. After having to do more training, paying more money, and another home study, we finily got into the program. We were in program for a whole year. During that year our case worker spoke with us three times. Twice to try to get us kids that did not fit our home study, and once to tell us that this was not a good fit for us and we needed to switch to the infant program. From the second time to the third time was breaking 7 months of silence. The switch to the new program would require more money, training, and a new home study. Any child we found that was a good fit was because my husband and I found them, and contacted those workers. Even now I am receiving calls from adoptuskids because my worker will not return any of their emails or phone calls. The only feeling we ever got was that they just wanted our money. If we ever feel like trying to adopt again it will definitely not be with Bethany.

Bethany is an incredible organization. If you are even thinking about adoption go to one of the information meetings they have. If you are going to adopt it is a huge undertaking but Bethany staff is there to walk you through the entire process and help with every detail.
