Being a foster parent is so much more than loving a child in your home. It’s also showing kindness to a family when they need it most.
It’s giving a child a safe place to land during a hard, scary time when they’re away from home. And it’s showing compassion to a parent who is likely overwhelmed, scared, and without a lot of support.
It’s helping a child stay connected to the only home they’ve ever known, in whatever way it’s safe to do so, and cheering on a family that’s living out a comeback story.
At Bethany, our heart beats for family. We want to see families strong, supported, and together. But we know there are times when families face challenges—and children need care.
That’s why we’re seeking foster parents who believe in families too.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Prove good health and ability to care for a child
- Maintain a stable income
- Pass a background screening
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete a Home Study
The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

Bethany Christian Services, specifically the Safe Families program, does an excellent job providing safe homes for the children of families who are in dire situations. The employees of Safe Families are fully invested in making sure these children are safe, loved and well-cared for. I appreciate Bethany for providing such a service to aid the families in the community.

This agency is amazing! The Executive Director and staff are caring individuals who desires to place children in a home, that's not only a safe environment, but a loving one as well. I personally know the hard work you guys are dedicating to children and families. You are always out in the community bringing awareness that this agency is not only here to support, but to be a pillar in the community.

We volunteer to help take in kids in need. These moms need our help. Some are for 1 or 2 days while others could be weeks or months. The moms can contact their kids as often as they want knowing they are in a safe home. The workers are always there to help us while taking in a child. They help with clothing, food, gifts or other things needed. I would recommend them to anyone who can volunteer to help with the children or financially.

Bethany Christian Services was very warm and welcoming when we needed some guidance. Their sensitivity was so appreciated for the friend that I brought. I highly recommend them!
