Requirements to become a foster parent

You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Colorado. Foster parents for children and families must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Maintain sufficient income to support a family
  • Have physical and mental capability to care for children and youth
  • Pass a child abuse background and criminal background check
  • Work with a treatment team and undergo future training
  • Complete a Home Study

Prospective foster families can contact a Colorado child placement agency or your local Department of Human Services. Social workers in these child welfare agencies will provide information about Colorado's child welfare system, foster care, and the adoption process.

Social workers recommended that other adults and children in your home agree to provide long-term home care, too. If everyone is ready to welcome a new child, your local agency will help your home become an approved foster home.

I used to live here when I was younger. 2002-2004. I lived in Pikes Peak. Dennis ran the unit. The staff I remember are Adam Teed, Ginny, a lady named Moe. A big black guy named Marcus, Gabby. My therapist was Jennifer. She was the nice and .ist understanding person ever. At school we had Sonya and Dan. At gym we had Jamie. I miss this place. I competed in a triathlon here. I had my heart broken here. So many memories and I wish I could go back and thank all of those staff members because they were like parents to me. I wish I could ask them how I was as a kid. I know I ran away alot and fought them every second. I was hurt as a kid and still have never really healed fully but I remember those people and this place and I'm grateful to have been there

Splendid sanctuary, I threw a desk at my school teacher and crushed her finger there. Never got in trouble.

...I miss her

Our child became more angry and violent, ran away more, and had worsened sexualized behaviors because of an incompetent, babysitting “lead therapist” going by the name of Laura Woodward LPC and her supervisor Marlena Romero LCSW. Instead of being honest with parents about their lack of experience with my child’s issues Laura and Marlena covered their ignorance by blaming the parents and giving us a 30-day notice to remove our child over the holidays. Laura even told us to give up our child to foster care. One wonders if Laura's and Marlena's vindictiveness stemmed from not only her incompetence but from a child with 2 Dads? Our 11 yo child ballooned from 80lbs to 120lbs in a few months. Laura even strongly recommended that she double our child's medications. Maybe easier for Laura and Marlena to warehouse children? Laura and Marlena removed my child’s diagnosis made by psychiatrists in multiple states. Why? To make Laura's numbers appear better? My child' was diagnosed with the same issues that Laura "miraculously" cured in 3-4 months.

Here's the kicker: at 30 days Laura, Marlena and MSV refused to release custody of our child to us. They intended to put our child in foster care rather than come home to his parents and 3 siblings. They finally released our child after we were forced to hire a lawyer and alert the local media about a possible kidnapping. It was easy for Laura, Marlena, and MSV to hold our child hostage because we live over 1,000 miles away.

From Laura's maltreatment, our child was rejected from over 40 RTCs in the US. Laura's incompetence and the condoning of Laura's incompetence by MSV must be investigated.

Our child became more angry and violent, ran away more, and had worsened sexualized behavior because of the incompetent, vindictive, self-reported "lead therapist" at MSV going by the name of Laura Woodward LPC. Her supervisor Marlena Romero LCSW condoned all of Laura's incompetent behaviors and errors in reports regarding my child.

Our 11 yo child ballooned from 80lbs to 120lbs in a few months more than likely because they doubled his medications. Maybe easier to warehouse children?

Without notice, Laura belligerently removed my child's diagnosis made by psychiatrists in multiple states. Why? To mask MSV's, Laura’s, and Marlena's incompetence for astronomical fees. My child's condition was later diagnosed AGAIN by another psychiatrist in a different state.

Instead of being honest with parents about Laura’s and MSV’s lack of experience and understanding of my child's issues Laura covered her incompetence by blaming us parents to "step up" before giving us A 30-DAY NOTICE TO REMOVE OUR CHILD OVER THE HOLIDAYS.

LAURA AND MARLENA EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TELLING US TO GIVE UP OUR CHILD TO FOSTER CARE. One wonders if their vindictiveness stemmed from working with a child having 2 Dads?

When our 30 days were up, Marlena Romero LCSW (clinical director), Laura Woodward LPC, and MSV refused to release our child to our custody, possibly to fulfill their plan to place my child in foster care. This unethical and inhumane trio finally released our child after we hired a lawyer and alerted the local media of a possible kidnapping.

MSV, Laura Woodward LPC, and Marlena Romero LCSW put their greed and prejudices over the needs of a desperately lost child and his family.

FROM LAURA’S, MARLENA’S, and MSV’S MALTREATMENT OUR CHILD WAS REJECTED FROM OVER 40 RTCs IN THE US.

Their handling of our child was negligent, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate.

MSV, Laura Woodward LPC, and Marlena Romero LCSW must be investigated for aggravating the mental health of our child, traumatizing our family, and most likely warehousing other children under her reckless, incompetent, and vindictive watch.

I was just informed that because of the merger between Integrative I sights and St.Vincent’s they can no longer except new patients after waiting over a month for my son to see the two providers he picked out. My son is 12 years-old. He has been let down enough. He lost his dad last year. He has an illness that the majority of therapists know nothing about yet we were told these therapists were informed. I have to tell my son he can’t see the therapist after all when he is asking me everyday when therapy starts because he is having such a hard time. And now I have to continue on the arduous search of finding a male therapist who is aware of this illness and accepts Medicaid to then be put on another wait list. My son in desperate need of therapy today. I have been trying to get him therapy for over a year now. They are well aware of the situation. He was treated like an expendable number by St. Vincents. I do not think this is an ethically run business.
