Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Colorado. Foster parents for children and families must:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Maintain sufficient income to support a family
- Have physical and mental capability to care for children and youth
- Pass a child abuse background and criminal background check
- Work with a treatment team and undergo future training

Prospective foster families can contact a Colorado child placement agency or your local Department of Human Services. Social workers in these child welfare agencies will provide information about Colorado's child welfare system, foster care, and the adoption process.
Social workers recommended that other adults and children in your home agree to provide long-term home care, too. If everyone is ready to welcome a new child, your local agency will help your home become an approved foster home.

With the help of Colorado Christian Services, we became the adoptive parents of 2 beautiful and healthy babies. Our son and daughter are now 2 and 4 years old, and we cannot imagine our lives without them. Our adoption journey began after experiencing years of infertility. We researched several agencies, and during our first visit to CCS, we immediately knew that this was the right place for us. We liked that it is Christian, well established, and incredibly personal. The staff cares about every client, and they know everyone by name. Each of our adoption stories is different and special in its own way. We feel incredibly blessed that God grew our family through adoption, and we're thankful that CCS was with us every step of the way.

We adopted our son through CCS, and we LOVE this agency and its staff! After one informational meeting, we knew that this was the place for us. The staff is incredible - to say that they care is a massive understatement. The team at CCS is focused on all participants in an adoption - the birthparents, the child, and the adoptive family - and they treat each of those participants as unequivocal equals. Each adoption is unique, and the adoption of our son was certainly that. The staff handled all of our ups and downs with care, grace, and strength. They laugh, cry, and pray with you as you navigate the journey. Our son is approaching his third birthday, and we're grateful every day for the hard work that the CCS team put in to make him a permanent part of our family. We are currently back in the process with them and are waiting for a second baby, and to me, the fact that we've returned to go through it again with this incredible team is all the recommendation needed.

We had a wonderful experience working with CCS! We visited with 5 different adoption agencies in the Denver area and liked them all, but chose CCS because of the Christian values, the fact that they only work with a small number of adoptive families and birth moms at a time (we knew we wouldn't be just a number), and because it was so clear that they are there equally for the birth parents and adoptive families.
Throughout our experience we felt cared for and supported. After completing our home study we waited about 4.5 months before our daughter was placed with us. Waiting is quite difficult, but our case worker, Christine, was so supportive. She checked in regularly and prayed for us. She is an adoptive-mom herself so she could relate and give helpful, sincere advice. Christine is the one who called to let us know that there was a baby ready for us and the one who placed her into my arms. What a blessing!
Our daughter's birth mom receives excellent counseling from the CCS birth mother case worker, Monica. It makes us feel good that such an important person in our daughter's life is being well cared for and that she will be able to receive counseling for as long as she likes.
If you are searching for an adoption agency, know that CCS is a wonderful agency with caring, knowledgable, committed case workers who will go out of their way to help you with your journey. They are awesome!

Five years ago, following a six month training through a county adoption process, we were invited to attend the Colorado Christian Services Seminar to learn about adoption through their agency. I can absolutely say without reservation that this weekend changed my life. Not only did I feel cared about as a person who so deeply wanted to have a family of my own but could not, I also witnessed an amazing love and care for birth mothers/birth fathers. My mind was opened up to the beauty of adoption - through the difficulty, pain, and fear - there is a forever family and forever relationships with birth moms/families. Frankly, CCS is much more than an agency for our family - they are a part of our family. Today, five years later I have a sweet five year old son and a precious 10 month old girl in my arms. Both adoptions have their own stories ... but both of them are an amazing gift and have forever changed our lives. There is no one like CCS - because of their hearts for people, families, and their faith in Jesus Christ we have a family. The director, Elizabeth Bolz, is a woman of integrity, character, and incredible heart. Meagan and Christine are women of conviction and compassion and always there for you - in the weakest of moments to the epitome of joy. Monica, the birth mother counselor, has the most amazing heart for birth mothers. She passes no judgment and loves each one through their own journey of decision. There are bigger agencies but there is none like CCS. We believe in their mission, their work, their vision. The path you choose is difficult but the miracles are more amazing than you could ever imagine. God Bless, CCS.

After contacting a few different agencies regarding adoption, I made a phone call to Colorado Christian Services. After I hung up, I knew immediately this was the agency I wanted to work with. I spoke to a caseworker who was kind, patient, and answered all of my questions. My husband was hesitant so we made an appointment. Immediately upon leaving, he also knew this was our agency. We began the adoption process and began working with the rest of the staff. Time and time again every staff member gave us a personal, caring, and compassionate experience. These people have amazing hearts and were a true blessing to us in a stressful, scary, and overwhelming process. They helped get us through the process in an organized manner. They calmed my fears. They became part of our life. And, most importantly, they made our dreams of a family come true. Over three years later, I love going to say hello. There has been no staff turnover. Everyone is excited to see us and see how our family has grown. God put this agency in our life and they were a true blessing. I am so grateful to CCS and to the birth mother who will forever hold a special place in my heart.
