Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

Be careful taking your children to this facility! Zero communication from staff, “DOCTORS” who don’t involve parents in the care plan and mismanage MEDICATION, and case management that really doesn’t know how to manage cases for follow-on care!!!!
How do you “misplace” a child’s medication list, causing them to be without medications for >48 hours, because of your own procedures that you supposedly stand by.
You state on your website that making a discharge plan from the moment you arrive is so important; however, when asked what the plan is, and you receive an “I don’t know,” I guess you have a facility that thinks things happen magically!
Lastly, when you hear about this big person that loves labeling themselves, “The CEO,” yet cannot return your call to talk through the issues at hand, sounds to me like this so called “CEO,” has an ego on her. I’ve asked 3 directors now to speak with “the all mighty,” over a week ago; however, I guess she doesn’t know how to return a phone call, or simply relay a message!
It’s really sad knowing my child’s circumstances, yet this facility just wants to get these kids in and out of their facility!

This is the worst school that LAUSD could have contract with. The staff is rude, no personality, no type of feedback when children are AWOL, if I have to rate this school, it gets a double zero!

The staff were really cool despite the issues many can face here.
