Serenity families are dedicated to caring for children and providing a supportive environment to help children prepare for reunification or adoption when reunification isn’t possible. Serenity families are diverse, coming from all backgrounds, religions, ages, genders, financial statuses, and marital statuses.
Serenity will work with you every step of the way to ensure a setting where the child can grow and thrive in safety. Our goals are to provide wonderful foster families and needed resources for our children, ongoing support and resources to our foster families, and assistance to the biological parents of the children in our care.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

Great services...

We have been working through Serenity for almost two years. They have decided to drop us WITHOUT explanation.
We are having housing issues and were determined to SELL OUR HOUSE just for the opportunity to foster. In January we had to retake some classes and were assured they were still willing to work with us. We had to pay $1,000 in fingerprinting costs because we took them at their word. After over two months of no word from anyone, no returned emails, no returned calls, we finally received a letter that "thanked" us for our "inquiry into foster parenting and interest in foster care". We took EVERY SINGLE CLASS. IT WAS NOT RESEARCH. WE WERE DEDICATED, and we were thrown away like garbage.
I will NEVER refer anyone to this company. They may care about the kids, but they don't care about all families. What's worse, we have been given NO REASON. NONE. BEWARE of this company. I know I'm one of the few negative reviews, but it only takes a few to raise suspicion.

Be very careful, 23 years ago I had to get my kids back while Serenity promises the foster people your children!, I was able to get 3back & my daughter was adopted out to the foster people! $ the kids were seperated!, now my adopted daughter is the sickest Child I have, She has come back to me!, thank God., but now Serenity has my granddaughter!, Since I had this history & worked for DCFS for 10 yrs, I was UNABLE to get her!, because I have history with DCFS!
