organization that was built to serve the needs of children and youth in the child welfare system. Along the way, we realized that this single program wasn’t enough – we needed to do more to support vulnerable children and families!Parents by Choice exists to bring Hope and Healing to Children, Youth and their families! We have a variety of services available such as Foster Care, Transitional Housing, Adoption, Positive Parenting, and more!

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

Super friendly, FREE parenting class with childcare

Julie was our instructor. Amazing person and effective at her instructions. Thank you for offering this course and for hiring such a wonderful person to do so. The child care program there was unique! My daughter looked forward to go out Monday’s and Tuesday’s sessions.

Love,Love,Love this is one of the most devoted staff you will ever meet. So I was kinda freaking out a little when I went because parenting is such a complex topic even come parenting but Paolo and Julie where bolth great teachers and made the classes very interesting and enjoyable. They also have child care during the parenting classes so you can focus on being the best parent you can. My daughter loved the staff that watched her and she loved the play room. I think that the most special part of this program is it's free they devote there lives to help and that says alot and there is never judgement it's a community feeling when your with your class and it helps you to gain knowledge about everyday struggles I took positive parenting and co parenting and it was worth every second thank you parents by choice
