Our foster care agency has a staff of experienced, passionate individuals that care about you and your family both now and in the future as you become a safe and loving foster home.
Nightlight Foster Care Advocates intentionally maintain a small caseload, allowing us to be attentive to helping you navigate your state foster care agency program.
Friendly, educated and ministry-minded staff members provide you with emotional and spiritual support as a foster parent before, during and after your placement.
We host year-round events, both fun and educational, for our foster parents and foster kids. When you choose to work with Nightlight, you become part of an extended support family.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

I have volunteered for the Uganda program with NCA for 10 years. Getting to know the people that run the adoption agency and watching my BFF adopt two children from them has given me an insight to their dedication and commitment to helping babies/children find forever homes through legal adoption. I would recommend and refer anyone interested in fostering or adoption to contact NCA. They do their jobs with lots of love.

We adopted our two bigs through Nightlight. Our son was adopted through the Snowflakes program and our daughter was adopted through an international program (China). Today marks 17 years since the embryo transfer that resulted in the birth of our bouncing baby boy, which means Nightlight has been a part of our lives for over 18 years! Whenever anyone asks about adoption, I refer them to Nightlight because I couldn’t imagine working with anyone else. In addition to helping us build our family, Nightlight has been supportive in my BFF and my dream to provide for the medical needs of the children awaiting reunification, fostering or adoption from the healing home in Uganda.

We adopted our son from Russia a few years back. Nightlight provided excellent support across the board. They helped navigate US immigration laws and procedures, the Russian legal system and associated logistics (document translation, etc.), and did great job with our home study. However, their obvious care for the people involved (parents, siblings, kids) set them apart - the support we received prior, during, and after the process was excellent. We are so grateful for Nightlight!

We adopted our daughter from Russia a number of years ago. Nightlight was amazing! They walked us through the process every step of the way, including the mountain of paperwork, providing translators and reservations to stay in a country we had no previous experience in, and making sure that every detail was set for our precious daughter to come home with us. Even helped us find a doctor when one of us became ill in Russia! We had none of the difficult experiences we had heard of with other agencies. We are so grateful for Nightlight, as is our daughter. Our experience with Nightlight has encouraged our daughter to set a goal to become a social worker herself so she can work with other orphans and adoptive families as her life's work.
