Family Builders’ core programs, foster care and foster to adopt focuses on guiding families through the foster care and adoption process to meet both the short term needs of children who are in foster care, as well as those that need permanent families. Family Builders prepares and supports both couples and single parents in all ten Bay Area counties to meet the needs of children in foster care.

In California alone, there are nearly 60,000 children in the foster care system. Some children need temporary families and many of the children will not be able to return to their family of origin. They are waiting for the one thing they need the most: a permanent, loving family. You can make a difference in a child’s life by becoming a permanent family.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.

The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:

  • 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
  • 22,892 who entered foster care
  • 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
  • California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
  • 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption

A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.

California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

I inquired through this agency and attend meetings they were very unprofessional the majority of the time we spoke was when i initiated it by calling them after waiting several weeks. The last woman I spoke with on the phone was exceptionally rude and called her self trying to make digs at me just because THE INFORMATION THE GAVE ME IN REGARDS TO FINGER PRINTING WAS WRONG! that's what happens when your not professional and you blankly give out the wrong information she said I did not deserve to adopt if I couldn't handle a simple task such as getting the finger printing done but failed to see she was the one who gave me the wrong information in the first place. I bet if I was white or Hispanic like HER I would have been spoken to in a much nicer tone and given the correct information

Not a good place to choose for a foster or adoption agency. Just a waste of time
