From our humble beginnings as a six-bed home for unwed teen mothers, we have evolved into a nationally accredited behavioral health and child welfare organization that serves about 2,000 clients per year. Crittenton Services for Children and Families continues to adapt and provide behavioral health and other critical support services that proactively address the needs of the youth and families we serve.
At its core, our mission is one of building resiliency in order to help our clients achieve permanency, stability, safety, and well-being. We remain committed in helping to break cycles of generational system-involvement, and our goal is to make a positive impact in healing childhood trauma within the communities we serve.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

PARENTS PLEASE BEAWARE THIS PLACE IS LIKE A PRISON FOR GIRLS THAT LACK THE SUPERVISION AND SKILLS TO CONTROL CHILDREN IN ANY CAPACITY. I have witnesses how staff try and control girls that are argessive towards other girls and simply it it laughable. All this place is is a piggy bank that gets there money from the state and does whatever it chooses with it and does not help the ones that really do need help. I hope more parents explode this places lack of skills. Our daughter has been attacked her by other girls 4 times in a month and we have witnessed on incident we're two girls tried to attack our daughter and all staff did was keep trying to block the other little girl and not do anything else. I even had to contact the police myself after this incident due to the little girl punching me in my face, staff asked me not to call police and seemed to be scared that I did so so they kicked me out of the parking lot. When police came even the police said this place is like a zoo and staff has no clue what they are doing and only see it as a state funded cash cow. SO PARENTS PLEASE BEWARE WHEN A JUDGE OR ANYONE CHOOSES TO SEND YOUR DAUGHTER HERE IT IS NOT SAFE.
