From our humble beginnings as a six-bed home for unwed teen mothers, we have evolved into a nationally accredited behavioral health and child welfare organization that serves about 2,000 clients per year. Crittenton Services for Children and Families continues to adapt and provide behavioral health and other critical support services that proactively address the needs of the youth and families we serve.

At its core, our mission is one of building resiliency in order to help our clients achieve permanency, stability, safety, and well-being. We remain committed in helping to break cycles of generational system-involvement, and our goal is to make a positive impact in healing childhood trauma within the communities we serve.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.

The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:

  • 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
  • 22,892 who entered foster care
  • 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
  • California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
  • 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption

A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.

California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

This place was a blessing to my love one's life back in 1995, she lived in this group home for three years, she made long lasting relationships with the wonderful staff there. one staff in mind
Jim Carson, who made a big impact on her life and was her mentor. I we just got the sad news of his passing as of last week. This place will always carry a soft place in our hearts.
R.I.P JIM CARSON!!!

I lived in the apartments of Buena park for 1 year I have a 3 year old son. They ended up kicking me out for something we already had a discussion about. They basically didn’t have a reason to. Tiffany the Casemanager and kendra Tiffany’s boss brought the cops to my door because I refused to leave. My friend who’s also in transitional housing next door to mine was helping me watch my son Kendra also threatened her “that she was next” (VERY UNPROFESSIONAL) I have no problem leaving but when it comes to struggling to find somewhere else to live and not having a roof over my sons head that’s a problem. Their very rude, they don’t care, worse place ever if I can give them a zero I would.
Most of the kids in foster youth are traumatized that’s the reason why youth stay quite. I’ve notice once foster youth start speaking up about how we’re treated their start getting nervous and placing or kicking them out to other places. Nobody believes us they see us as messed up kids with problems but no we’ve been taken from parents that have done harm to us. Their here to help NOT CAUSE MORE ! Bad program!

They are unfair and the environment is unsafe for the babies and girls ... they need new management along with proper care for the girls. My little sister and her daughter currently stays here and I am angry at the fact that they are not safe here. I am getting numerous phone calls and hear screaming and drama going on in the background. This is totally unacceptable!!! 😡 Now I am doing my very best to get the two of them out !
