At any given time, there are approximately 7,000 children in foster care in Wisconsin who deserve safety and nurturing in a family setting. Foster parents provide a temporary home for children until they can be safely reunited with their biological family or reach another form of permanency, such as adoption or guardianship. As the state's largest provider of foster care programming, Children's Wisconsin offers high levels of support to foster and adoptive families. By opening your home to a child in your community, you become part of the story.

Foster parents may be licensed in one of the four foster care programs – General Foster Care, Treatment Foster Care, General Foster Care/Adoption, or Respite Foster Care (programs vary according to region). Click on the boxes below to learn more about each licensing option. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please fill out the information request form at the "Contact Us" link to the right. I appreciate your consideration of children and families in Wisconsin!

Requirements to become a foster parent

The Wisconsin Foster Care and Adoption Resource Center (FCARC) provides educational materials on its website, and you can learn more about foster care through the No Matter What: Stories of Hope and Resilience YouTube Channel. There are also links to family support associations and groups.

You can look up statewide meetings, training options, and events on the FCARC website or contact them at 1-800-762-8063.

Fostering Across Wisconsin is a newsletter that contains helpful articles, stories, and resources. These newsletters are available to parents via a free lending library.

The State of Wisconsin Foster Parent Handbook is packed with valuable tips. It's an excellent source of information to refer to if you need to clarify something or learn more about a foster parent's responsibilities.

Your local foster and adoption agency is always there for you as well. They should be your first choice when contacting someone with questions or concerns.

Like the convenience of the super center, however this location is kinda of messy and the sporting goods department is lacking! They do not carry hunting/camping/fishing tools(weapons).
No hunting rifles, no bows, (none!), No arrows, No blades, knives no fishing hooks, not even bb guns..

Very disappointing. If we could give them negative stars we would. We scheduled our appointment 4 months ago. We were NEVER told that the social worker needed to attend the first appointment. We would never have thought to ask, as the child's CHILDREN"S HOSPITAL pediatrician was the doctor that prescribed her medication for ADHD. We were turned away with ZERO empathy (a trait we have come to expect from all people associated with this horrible company). The receptionist was SHOCKED that we were able to communicate with the biological parent and get all the paperwork signed. They were even more shocked when they realized we were not kinship providers. I am disgusted with Children's hospital and this just reinforces why we stopped being foster parents with them. They don't care about the kids at all and don't do the pre-work to make sure kiddos get the care they need.
