Utah Foster Care believes all children deserve safe, stable and loving families. Children heal when our statewide community comes together. While roughly 50% of children in foster care will reunite with their biological families, there will always be a need for families to adopt children from foster care. Currently, there are over 150 children waiting to be adopted in Utah. These children deserve the same love and support a family can offer.

There are two potential ways to adopt thru foster care: the first is foster-to-adopt; the second is adopt a waiting child.
Adopting through foster care brings numerous rewards and family growth. It’s an opportunity to transform lives, give back to the community, foster hope and healing, and offer support to children in need while enriching your own life. It’s a chance to make a profound difference and celebrate the diversity of the human experience.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Utah families receive monthly foster care payments to help offset the costs of raising a child. This stipend is meant for room and board, clothing, and related expenses.

The amount you receive varies based on a child's age and needs. Children that require more attention and care have slightly higher rates.

Foster youth have their medical and dental needs covered through Medicaid. This insurance should be enough for any doctor's visits, therapy sessions, dental exams, etc. Foster children also qualify for free school lunches.

Utah parents can take advantage of mentorship programs that allow them to learn from more experienced foster families. It's an excellent way to connect with others and build a support network. Plus, you'll have someone else to turn to if you have questions.

Utah Kids Belong has an app that gives foster parents access to special discounts from foster-friendly businesses. It's also an easy way to connect with faith-based communities, which may offer other types of support.

Liz is an awesome trainer. I wish I took theses classes before I became a mother of my biological children. Her classes should be mandatory before you can take your first baby home from the hospital. Great job, Liz! Thank you for making me a better person.
