Helping Hand Home is the oldest continuously operating residential childcare agency in Travis County and a priceless resource kept strong and viable through community support. Our mission is to provide a nurturing and therapeutic home for abused/neglected children and to restore each child to a healthy family setting.With private and community support, we give children and families the best in care through a highly educated staff, low child-to-staff ratio and a comprehensive approach to healing. This approach helps children whose young lives were once filled with fear, pain and chaos learn to reclaim their childhood and trust adults to take care of them. In 1995, the Home expanded its services to include therapeutic foster care. The program serves children from birth to 18 years old, some of whom require treatment services but can function successfully in a home environment. In addition to foster care, the home is also licensed for adoption services.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Adults who are new to the fostering process sometimes feel overwhelmed and wonder if they will have support on their journey. Your child-placing agency is the first resource. Social services caseworkers provide aspiring foster parents with various types of support and connections. These include free educational training programs, helplines, and support groups.
It is important that foster parents build their individual support network, too. Connecting with other foster families with more experience is an excellent place to begin. Texas groups offer foster parent meetups; you can search online for the closest one.
The Texas Foster Family Association provides state training, a regional directory of support services, a summer training conference, and more. Membership benefits include getting access to foster care professionals and learning more about ways to become better caregivers. Children of TFFA members can also get assistance through the Scholarship Fund.
Austin Angels is another support organization that strives to assist foster parents and Texas foster children. They offer care packages and gifts for foster children and their caregivers, mentorship options, and education, among other resources. Foster children and teens can learn valuable skills that help prepare them for independent living, as well.

I was here when I was 6 and a half years old and I've had some of my most fondest memories here and I appreciate you all so much! I still remember Cheryl she was my favorite, she smelled like cigarettes but she was always so kind to me and she'd always sing "Michelle, my bell, MI mi mi mi.." thank you guys for watching me the therapist too was really kind and I always looked forward to her visits 🥰

They closed our home for giving notice due to safety concerns and to provide the child with to support in areas we weren't equipped to help in. When becoming foster parents we were told that we could give notice at any time.

I had an interview with these people and they’re so unprofessional.
I had an interview with Maria Hammer and during the interview she was so passive aggressive. They didn’t tell me about the status of my application until 4 days I was supposed to start, their phones don’t work, and they don’t hire qualified people. They also only pay $15 an hour to be around emotionally disturbed and traumatized children.
