Some of our State’s most vulnerable children are in Residential Treatment Centers and Psychiatric Hospitals and not because those are the most appropriate places for them. These institutions are not equipped to help these children achieve emotional and behavioral stability, heal from their trauma, and move towards permanency.
Is there something we can do about it?
Our Treatment Foster Care (TFC) program equips parents to provide the care and high levels of nurture and structure children need in a family home environment. Children can come to amazing levels of healing when their needs are met by creative, consistent, and committed caregivers.
Using a combination of evidence-based interventions, best-practice guidelines, and common-sense parenting; TFC is a highly effective, least-restrictive placement and treatment alternative for children who are traditionally referred for placement in Residential Treatment Centers or Psychiatric Hospitals.
TFC gives children the opportunity to heal and grow by equipping them with skills and tools necessary to manage the impact of their histories and circumstances while equipping you to meet their emotional and behavioral needs. What children in the TFC program need are parents who will consistently meet those needs no matter how challenging the behaviors they encounter.
TFC differs from our traditional foster care program through its team approach, most notably in the experience, education, and training of our TFC staff.
Our TFC program starts with Professional Foster Parents who receive additional training and support beyond what is typical of traditional foster care. As a Professional Foster Parent, you will make a commitment to be creative and available to the children placed in their home.
Similarly, our TFC staff must meet a higher level of qualification, participate in additional training modules, and are required to continuously seek opportunities to expand their skill sets and expertise.
Unlike traditional foster care, where we could place multiple children in your home, TFC is limited to one or possibly two children at a time. By limiting the number of placements in your home, we are able to focus on the specific emotional and behavioral needs of your child.
This allows them time to develop socially acceptable and skills, and as the child develops these skills, and demonstrates the ability to effectively interact in positive ways with peers, the Treatment Team will work toward integrating the child back into traditional foster care or finding permanency for them.
It is important to remember that there are no foster to adopt placements in TFC and we can’t do it without your help.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Adults who are new to the fostering process sometimes feel overwhelmed and wonder if they will have support on their journey. Your child-placing agency is the first resource. Social services caseworkers provide aspiring foster parents with various types of support and connections. These include free educational training programs, helplines, and support groups.
It is important that foster parents build their individual support network, too. Connecting with other foster families with more experience is an excellent place to begin. Texas groups offer foster parent meetups; you can search online for the closest one.
The Texas Foster Family Association provides state training, a regional directory of support services, a summer training conference, and more. Membership benefits include getting access to foster care professionals and learning more about ways to become better caregivers. Children of TFFA members can also get assistance through the Scholarship Fund.
Austin Angels is another support organization that strives to assist foster parents and Texas foster children. They offer care packages and gifts for foster children and their caregivers, mentorship options, and education, among other resources. Foster children and teens can learn valuable skills that help prepare them for independent living, as well.

CK Family Services is child centered, trauma informed, and has both a child placement services wing and behavioral health. We actually found them through the BH wing when we were serving as foster parents for the state directly and our foster kiddo needed help. Since then we've switched over to them as an agency and had an amazing experience. They truly care about their families and support the foster parents well. The training they give is extensive on trauma and they have podcasts, videos, and staff to support their trauma informed view. I'm also on the parent advisory board because they want to hear directly from foster parents on how they can improve and what they can implement to continue to grow. You won't find a better caring, resourced, trauma informed, or christian agency than them!

If you are interested in fostering a child I would definitely not recommend this place they make appointments that they never show up for and don't even have the decency to call you I am very disappointed

If your goal is matched adoption , I recommend the adopting parents , starting younger with this agency We thought attending classes via the zoom app, getting all documents submitted faster than they could hit send on their email, getting registered/CPR certified in record time , having loft bed purchased and installed , buying a bigger vehicle to fit the growing family- would make the process smooth and welcoming for our newbie.
Pre service training led us to believe that we’d be done by summers end , since we were considering where we’d be traveling with our newbie for annual vacay.
I even had a Hiccup with getting my SScard turned in and had to send off fire a new one (consider the backup off SS office right now) . That STILL beat us to approval (they tell you at the “end” you’re only approved by them to adopt, not licensed, because I has asked to have a certificate to frame on the wall).
They tell you the steps of the process on their zoom PowerPoint(we were matched adoption from the get go and that was outlined when we i initially made contact with them ) .What they DO NOT make clear is the realistic time frame: other than how long the home-steady phase was supposed to take we thought it was going to take the 5-6 weeks as they outlined and I took note of.
No. After the 5.5 hour home-steady and 6 weeks, i email for a status check . Within a few days the homestudy writer calls us and asks us the exact same questions she asked 6 weeks prior. She even asked about the safety equipment (if they were in place ) that were right there during walk thru. 10 weeks later (16 wks since home-study) we’re are getting another call after I email for yet another update : from their supervisor: asking same questions , but said it was so the study would be written better . Over four months for this phase . They said it was due to short staffing and short of training courses for writers . BUT THEY ASKED THE SAME QUESTIONS! Over and over! Once we were approved our case manager informs us it will be another 7 to 18 months before we even get to the 6 month trial period with the child in our home as a test run . Why DID that bomb just now get dropped?!? Then most broadcasts that were sent to us didn’t fit what we had applied for . Make sure you request to read the finished home study . We went in office and that home study that took so long to write and rewrite was STILL worded incorrectly and didn’t paint us as the family that we are . There were factual errors.
We finally got close to moving forward with one , but after having completed the pre service training , we got an email saying that something didn’t meet the state standards and all clients had to redo this course . Then we received an email that we were due for a home visit . Why?! We still didn’t even have a child !!!!! This is the short of it .As soon as we mentioned closing our home - they replied with the next date to Maybe (not definitely) being selected for the child we fell in love with. WHO KNOWS how much longer it would have been if we hadn’t been selected.
Our hearts are broken , but we are not young anymore.

This place is a joke......didnt show up for either app. on time. The first app. was at 1:00 and she did not call nor return any calls till 6:30 that evening!!! Lost a whole day of work on that day.Came in the house for a total of 20 mins. Forgot to ask about my income till I reminded her as she was walking out the door. Then lied on the report...said my house smelled like cig. smoke...I rent and have been here 6 years and nobody I mean nobody has smoked in this house in those 6 years...so I have no idea why she would lie like that....I will be reporting them ...just go with anybody else in my opinion.
