Small World, Inc.
Small World, as a Christian ministry, exists to support parents through the difficult decision of parenting or placing their child for adoption and to preserve and protect the lives, born and unborn, of orphaned, abandoned and unwanted children, by looking after them, and ultimately restoring them as sons and daughters in loving Christian families.
Small World Adoption Agency was founded by Jim and Jean Savley.
Small World continues to rescue orphans in institutions around the world and place them for adoption in Christian families. We look forward to talking with you and helping to shape the future of a child in need.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Foster parents receive help from the Department of Children’s Services, including board rate payments to help offset the cost of care. These rates vary slightly based on the child's age and needs.
Children and teens in foster care also receive state health insurance through SelectKids. The parent helpline is 1-888-422-2963, and there's an online portal for parents.
Kids in care receive a membership ID card, which the DCS Health Advocate Representative has. Each child is also assigned a PCP. Physical and mental health care needs, as well as dental and vision services, are covered.
When you start fostering in Tennessee, you'll receive access to a dedicated Foster Parent Advocate who can answer questions, provide support, and assist you with any grievances and appeals.
Parents must also complete trauma-informed training, which teaches them how to be better caregivers. The training is free, and your agency can help you find and complete the necessary hours. You'll learn most of what you need to know in training, though you'll also want a solid support network.
Foster parents receive access to respite care, which can provide a break when needed. While most parents can leave their children with a babysitter or family member, foster parents must rely on trained, licensed caregivers. Depending on respite care allows parents to address emergencies, relieve stress, etc.

Small World wasn’t our first option, but through them God gave us our son; so, we are grateful.
Respect-
It’s a small agency; so, we expected a better relationship. Instead we felt like an after-thought throughout the entire process. From the time we decided to move forward with the adoption, to after we brought our son home, we felt as all the emphasis was put on the birth mom and no attention to our questions, needs, or desires. We didn’t even have a direct number to call our social worker until we flew down to meet the birth mom. We’d email and wait days for a response, sometimes over a week or more. After we brought our son home, 8 months passed before we finalized and NOT ONCE did Small World call or initiate contact with us to check on how we were doing. We couldn’t get answers about a birth certificate, SSN, or the attorney with whom we’d go to court. We’d get what felt like blanket statements: “we’ll tell you when that time comes,” or “ you’ll get it later.” This was disappointing because the process was new to us as well. It was rude. They trusted us enough to give us a child but not enough to give us information. With the amount of money we gave them, we only wanted to be treated with respect, and didn’t feel it.
Cost/Money-
We expected the process to be costly. We planned for it; however, with Small World, we just felt like a bank giving money, when they asked…and the way our spending account was used was never clearly communicated to us. The contract that we signed stated we’d be returned that money. When we questioned it, we were just told “it’s spent.” There was no invoice to show the money being spent. The social worker would always direct us to “accounting” when we asked. It took months before I realized that “accounting” is one person, who works one day a week, for half a day (what I was told, by the receptionist). “Accounting,“ who is NOT AT ALL responsive, manages all the money in 1/2 a day’s work. They make no effort to be transparent with the money…At least not with us.
Recommendation-
We wouldn’t recommend them. For a smaller agency, their customer service (especially in a field such as this), should be exceptional - for both birth mom AND adoptive parents. Unfortunately, we got the short end this time. Although we were only with Nightlight Christian for a short amount of time, we’d recommend them any time. Even for a large agency, Nightlight made us feel like we were their only clients.

We came to Small World as expats living outside of the US. We had contacted a number of larger / national agencies who could not provide a solution for us. Long story short, we have used Small World for two adoptions. Small World works so efficiently and effectively and makes the whole process as easy as can be.
The Small World team outlines a very clear process for what is required from beginning to end. They are always available to answer questions and their responses are always positive and encouraging. You feel completely prepared prior to travel and when you show up in country for 'gotcha day' and Consulate visit, it couldn't be easier. The Small World team takes care of the logistics and you get to focus on your new child.
We have recommended Small World and will continue to do so!

We are so grateful for all the help from the Small World Family in bringing our 3 (soon to be 4) children home. They have always been there supporting, praying, and celebrating with us. They are very attentive to details to help minimize any possible problems. They are very focused on finding the right family for the children. Children are always their main focus. They have been amazing though every step of the process and recommend them highly!!! Thank you so much to our Small World Family!!!

I wish there were more stars I could award to this amazing agency! Small World was an absolute joy to work with from the moment we saw our daughter's picture until today as we are working through our post placement visits. They communicate each and every step in and easy to understand way. We knew exactly what was coming next and what we needed to successfully navigate the process. The Small World Team was extremely communicative through out the entire process. Small World's heart for the orphan is so evident in every way. It was a joy to work with this Christ centered agency. If God calls us to add another child to our family, we will not hesitate to ask Small World to join us on the journey. Thank you, Small World for loving us well and taking such great care of us!

All of the staff was very friendly and very helpful. They helped us navigate some of the unique factors of our adoption, and we were very happy how everything proceeded. We would strongly recommend them to others.
