Being a foster parent is so much more than loving a child in your home. It’s also showing kindness to a family when they need it most.
It’s giving a child a safe place to land during a hard, scary time when they’re away from home. And it’s showing compassion to a parent who is likely overwhelmed, scared, and without a lot of support.

It’s helping a child stay connected to the only home they’ve ever known, in whatever way it’s safe to do so, and cheering on a family that’s living out a comeback story.

At Bethany, our heart beats for family. We want to see families strong, supported, and together. But we know there are times when families face challenges—and children need care.

That’s why we’re seeking foster parents who believe in families too.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Foster parents receive help from the Department of Children’s Services, including board rate payments to help offset the cost of care. These rates vary slightly based on the child's age and needs.

Children and teens in foster care also receive state health insurance through SelectKids. The parent helpline is 1-888-422-2963, and there's an online portal for parents.

Kids in care receive a membership ID card, which the DCS Health Advocate Representative has. Each child is also assigned a PCP. Physical and mental health care needs, as well as dental and vision services, are covered.

When you start fostering in Tennessee, you'll receive access to a dedicated Foster Parent Advocate who can answer questions, provide support, and assist you with any grievances and appeals.

Parents must also complete trauma-informed training, which teaches them how to be better caregivers. The training is free, and your agency can help you find and complete the necessary hours. You'll learn most of what you need to know in training, though you'll also want a solid support network.

Foster parents receive access to respite care, which can provide a break when needed. While most parents can leave their children with a babysitter or family member, foster parents must rely on trained, licensed caregivers. Depending on respite care allows parents to address emergencies, relieve stress, etc.

During everything that happened Bethany was all pretty good. But I have had to change my address multiple times for the same address which they claimed they changed and it never ended up happening. Now my ex husband who is the birth father of our child (who never wanted anything to do with the baby in the first place) receives the pictures and flaunts them over me. If information could be updated the first time this rating would have 5 stars, no problem. But since I have called about it on multiple occasions and it was never fixed I cannot give a good rating on that part. Other than that, I've had no issues. But I would like to see pictures of the child I'm trying to keep up with. Having the ability to keep up with the child is a big step that is kind of required.

Bethany was a blessing for our family. Our contacts at the agency supported us throughout the entire infant adoption process and continues to communicate/support us almost a year after our adoption. Thank you to everyone at Bethany for being so great.

We absolutely love the staff at Bethany Christian Services. They have walked alongside as we adopted both of our beautiful daughters. Everyone we have come in contact with has been so helpful. The counselors there are so well-trained and you can tell they really love what they do. It shows in how fantastic they are at their jobs as they work with both adoptive parents and expectant mothers. Most importantly for us us they are Christ centered and want to minister, serve, and love on all of the families they come in contact with on a daily basis. We are now pursuing our third adoption and wouldn't want to do it with anyone else but the staff at the Bethany office in Nashville.

We worked with the Nashville Bethany Office for our first adoption & had a great experience. They take time to walk you through every step of the process, they offer counseling for birth parents (pre & post placement), they also work hard to connect adopting families throughout Middle Tennessee who serve as a support network for adoptive families. We could not recommend them high enough for domestic or international adoption through an agency.

I emailed this agency in confidence that I could get answers on how adoption processes go so my husband and I could make a decision on which agency to choose. And it was a pretty bad experience.

The agency is very slow at emailing. It took a week to finally set a date to talk. And it wasn't in person bc of the timing and location but it was a phone call.

I had a very busy day at work. The appt was at 6 and my husband gets off work at 6. So I booked it to his job after I got off so we could be together for the conversation. I've been prepping and reading and really didn't have a great feeling anyway.

They never called us. And after trying to call both the office and Emily's cellphone (the girl who was supposed to call us) no answer.

A day later, instead of being mad about it, I emailed her kindly asking if she had missed it for another reason then just not calling us or forgetting. I'm still waiting for a response. So here I am, writing a Google review that could've been avoided. I feel like this was very rude and disrespectful especially since this is already a very overwhelming process. They're supposed to make it not so overwhelming and they didnt. Therefore, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS AGENCY.

Thanks.
