Services are provided to clients are adoptions without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, or limited English proficiency.

Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care in Pennsylvania. Foster parents for children in need must:
- Be a minimum of 21 years old
- Pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting
- Have time and energy to devote to fostering
- Live in a safe and healthy environment
- Prove good health through a medical examination/physical
- Maintain financial stability
- Clear all home safety requirements
- Complete required pre-service training hours
- Finish the Home Inspection
After fulfilling all requirements during the approval process, licensed foster parents can welcome a foster child into their home. To maintain a valid license, foster parents must also participate in ongoing training each year.
All adults who are living in homes with foster children in Pennsylvania must pass a required criminal background check and fingerprinting. This includes adult children who are family members living at home.
There are other, more detailed requirements for foster homes, such as having a flushing toilet and an operable phone. Prospective foster parents will learn more details during foster parent orientation.
Once you've decided to foster, you can contact a public or private foster agency or the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association. Foster agencies screen and train prospective foster families and ensure applicants are good candidates for foster care.

We had several friends who used AFTH Lancaster office to adopt their children and they had great things to say about the office and agency. We, too, found the agency and office to be very supportive and helpful through our journey. The staff is very personable and is happy to answer any questions, day or night. We adopted our beautiful daughter last year with the help of the Lancaster office and it was a great experience! We also felt as though they offer a lot of support and education to all involved in adoption, including expectant and birth parents, prospective and adoptive parents and the adoptee. We highly recommend Adoptions From The Heart and specifically the Lancaster, PA office!

They took my son away from me. They fraudulently adopted him to a family. Told me I was not allowed to take him home. Never once told me why. I was healthy and had a home. Everything I needed. This agency is wrong.

We cannot say enough about AFTH and our adoption experiences. The Lancaster office has wonderful social workers and support staff. We have been through the adoption process twice and the Lancaster team has been there for every step. When we first started the process the Lancaster team walked us through every stage of the process, which can be overwhelming at first, and they helped ease our stress. Someone was always available, and still is to this day, to answer any questions that we had/have. Going through the adoption journey not only builds your family but also builds lasting relationships with the people who helped you fulfill this dream. The Lancaster team will forever be in our hearts and will continue to be a part of our adoption journey as our children grow. Thanks to Adoptions From The Heart our family is now complete! I highly recommend AFTH to anyone considering adoption.

Since placing two years ago, AFTH has continued to support me through everything. All the ladies in the Lancaster office (not to mention the entire organization) are amazing and have always been there for me when I needed them. I never once felt pushed to the side, not even after the adoption was finalized. AFTH helps birth moms through every part of their journey. Stephanie, my case worker, really went above and beyond for me. I always feel comfortable and at home. I can't recommend them enough.
