A Family For Every Child (AFFEC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to finding permanent and loving adoptive families for waiting foster children. To accomplish our mission, we focus on finding loving and permanent families for children who the foster care system considers “hard to place.” The children who fall into this category are usually older, ethnically diverse, part of a sibling group, or have severe physical, emotional, and/or developmental challenges. AFFEC began as the vision of its founder and Executive Director, Christy Obie-Barrett. Christy drew upon her own firsthand experiences as a tireless child advocate and mother of nine adoptive and three biological children. Christy and dozens of dedicated volunteers formed AFFEC in October 2006. The organization has grown into one focused on locating permanent and loving adoptive families for waiting foster children and identifying and reconnecting lost family members with older foster children who might otherwise end up homeless and have little hope for a bright future.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Foster parents receive a reimbursement or payment to help with care costs. According to the Oregon Department of Human Services, the Oregon foster care rates are as follows:
- Base rate payment of $693 per month (age 0-5 years)
- Base rate payment of $733 per month (age 6-12)
- Base rate payment of $795 per month (age 13 - 20)
These payments are meant to help cover the costs of food, clothing, housing, transportation, personal care items, etc. Parents may also receive a shelter care payment.
The DHS or private foster care agencies provide flexible training opportunities, on-call support, access to a network of professionals, support groups, and respite care.
Respite care gives full-time foster parents a break when needed or allows them to address emergency situations.
With Love Oregon is a non-profit that supports foster families by providing clothing and supplies to young children. Parents can get clothing, diapers, car seats, and more.

Super people doing fantastic things for kids.

I joined this organization to integrate into and give back to the community. When Mavis organized the mentors, it was a wonderful place! She was fantastic. Recently they have had high turnover in staff and I withdrew due to their inability to organize and because they are really rude. I would not recommend this program anymore and I'm really bummed that it seems to be going south just as if Big Brothers Big Sisters did in Eugene.
