Requirements to become a foster parent
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) provides foster care support, such as connecting parents to hotlines and listing information about the licensure process. Besides the State Department of Human Resources, many private agencies in Oklahoma are dedicated to helping foster children and the parents that care for them.
The Oklahoma Family Network (OFN) helps children with special healthcare needs. OFN can connect parents with appropriate resources and training. Their Resource Directory lists organizations and professionals by topics, such as food assistance or disability services, so you can easily find help in your area.
The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) is part of the Children’s Health Act. You can learn more about child trauma and trauma-informed care. There are also informational materials and training available through the NCTSN.
Additionally, private adoption agencies offer programs and support for any parent interested in fostering to adopt.

Adoption choices was amazing, truly a God send for our family. They walked with us through every step and helped us gain two perfect angels. I highly recommend them for their knowledge, legal assistance, organization and how well they kept in contact with us through the whole process. Amazing company and very fast process for us.

Adoption Choices holds a special place for us as they helped us realize our dream of starting a family. I highly recommend this agency for anyone looking to adopt. When we started this process, we didn't know what all to expect. We were amazed at the support and patience displayed by every person we interacted with. For months while we waited for the birth of our daughter, our adoption counselor, Kirsten, answered every phone call, email and text promptly - no matter how big or small our question - any time we needed her. Our beautiful daughter, now 3, is the light of our lives. Even though we live in another state, we have decided to use Adoption Choices of Oklahoma for a second time as we start the journey to adopt our 2nd child.
