We believe all children should have the benefit of a safe, stable home – a place where they belong, where they are loved, guided, and encouraged.
We serve children and families throughout NC – through foster care, adoption, early childhood services, family preservation and reunification, specialized care for children with dual diagnoses, and support for court-involved youth.
At MHC Family (aka Methodist Home for Children) we believe every child deserves a chance.Children come into foster care with histories of neglect, trauma, or abuse. Some have been separated from siblings; others have been moved from home to home.
Our foster parents are trained to provide kindness, compassion, and special care with the goal of helping children transition into permanent homes.
We need foster parents who are willing to learn about grief and loss, show compassion, introduce structure, and support the child as part of a team.

Requirements to become a foster parent

The state requires that foster parents get licensed through their local Department of Social Services or a licensed private agency. These sources will be your best form of support. Through them, you'll receive training and have a point of contact for emergencies.

If you ever have questions, reach out to your case manager. They're trained to assist foster families and the children in their care.

The Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina is a statewide association that recruits new parents, provides training, and offers support. You can find training and webinars online. You can also read parenting tips, find your region, and more.

The National Foster Parent Association is a non-profit that provides training and education. Caregivers can also find free online training through the NFPA.

The NC Division of Social Services (NC DSS) is the agency in charge of overseeing the state's child welfare system. NC Kids assists new foster parents with the early stages of the process. You can find children awaiting adoption and access foster care and adoption support services.

It also helps to form connections with other foster families, especially those with years of experience. You may have questions or need advice from them. It can make you feel like you have someone on your side through your journey.

Prior to being employed with MHFC I worked alongside of them for almost 10yrs. The entire MHFC family from
Foster care, adoption, to the group homes take great pride in helping the youth they serve. I’m very happy to be apart of this team and would recommend family’s that need some assisted with their teens, children, and/or themselves to look into MHFC

I had the privilege of working here for 3 months now. I was promoted to supervisor within my first month. I really love working here. I feel like this is a great career choice to grow as a professional and to become an overall better person. I love the extra support and training that we have to keep us sharp, and learning new skills. I would definitely recommend this Job/Career to anyone looking to kickstart their professional career!

Enjoyed my time interning at the Raleigh Headquarters. The staff is supportive and create an enjoyable work environment. You can tell that everyone loves their jobs. They were also flexible about my schedule, which was greatly appreciated. Definitely would recommend it for college students looking for an internship.

Would not recommend working for this company, especially as an assessment counselor or a teacher. Very low pay & poor leadership. Lack of communication was huge.
