Methodist Home for Children
We believe all children should have the benefit of a safe, stable home – a place where they belong, where they are loved, guided, and encouraged.
We serve children and families throughout NC – through foster care, adoption, early childhood services, family preservation and reunification, specialized care for children with dual diagnoses, and support for court-involved youth.
At MHC Family (aka Methodist Home for Children) we believe every child deserves a chance.Children come into foster care with histories of neglect, trauma, or abuse. Some have been separated from siblings; others have been moved from home to home.
Our foster parents are trained to provide kindness, compassion, and special care with the goal of helping children transition into permanent homes.
We need foster parents who are willing to learn about grief and loss, show compassion, introduce structure, and support the child as part of a team.

Requirements to become a foster parent
The state requires that foster parents get licensed through their local Department of Social Services or a licensed private agency. These sources will be your best form of support. Through them, you'll receive training and have a point of contact for emergencies.
If you ever have questions, reach out to your case manager. They're trained to assist foster families and the children in their care.
The Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina is a statewide association that recruits new parents, provides training, and offers support. You can find training and webinars online. You can also read parenting tips, find your region, and more.
The National Foster Parent Association is a non-profit that provides training and education. Caregivers can also find free online training through the NFPA.
The NC Division of Social Services (NC DSS) is the agency in charge of overseeing the state's child welfare system. NC Kids assists new foster parents with the early stages of the process. You can find children awaiting adoption and access foster care and adoption support services.
It also helps to form connections with other foster families, especially those with years of experience. You may have questions or need advice from them. It can make you feel like you have someone on your side through your journey.

In over 30 years, I have never worked with an organization with so much integrity and commitment to excellence! The leadership is inspiring and dedicated to the children, youth, and families we serve. Ongoing professional development and encouraging/supporting best practices are just a few of the ways MHC invests in its employees and achieves its mission.

I am currently an Operations Manager at the Insight Crisis and Assessment center located in Granville County, I have been with the agency for 4 years. I love working with the youth and the staff. This is such a rewarding career and I totally feel supported by my co-workers, managers and the leadership team! If you are looking for a rewarding career and a chance to change the lives of youth, give our agency a chance!

I am blessed to work at MHC for 21 years. Having worked in nonprofits my entire career, I have truly seen transformation in our kids and families lives! Each kid I meet has a story, not always an easy life. Our staff are amazing, caring, loving people and are very talented to help move our kids to a better place. We invest in our people. There are opportunities for professional development and skill building. The best part of MHC is the culture and the people. Because we are faith based we tend to have staff who are committed to building a better life for kids who don’t have a good family life. We focus on our values of honesty, compassion, empowerment, responsibility and respect! It is a family focused agency and I am blessed and proud to be a part of MHC.

Many people I know have had terrible experiences working there. Low pay. Unsafe working conditions, leaving young female employees to handle groups of older teen boys alone multiple times. Conditions for the kids weren’t great either, very disappointing since this line of work is essential!

Do not recommend working for. Everything seems go good, until you get injured or sick, then they fire you. They want you to go againest doctors orders. They lose paperwork H.R. and the home. Then blame you for not turning it in. I have my proof. You pay in for short-term and long-term disability benefits and you can't even use them.
