Our Foster & Kinship Care program offers another vital opportunity to meet our clients where they are, delivering the care and support they need, the moment they need it. Many of the children we serve need a safe, secure home and compassionate, reliable care as their families navigate difficult times. We encourage members of our community to open their hearts and consider this important responsibility.

When you choose to share your heart and home with a child through our foster care program, you can count on continuous support in return. We offer:

One-on-one ongoing support, including home visits by an assigned Foster Care Specialist
Ongoing educational opportunities and connections with experienced foster parents – a team of people working together with you to ensure success and healthy relationships
Access to experienced, caring staff who are available to answer your phone calls any time of the day or night.

Requirements to become a foster parent

If you're worried about being on your own as a foster parent, don't be! Many resources are available to families.

There are plenty of educational materials on the Nebraska DHHS website. You can learn about definitions and common phrases, Medicaid for foster youth, and what it means to become a resource parent. Plus, there are consultants available to resource families.

Remember, there's plenty of information you can find online as well. From blogs to books, there's no shortage of educational materials for foster parents. Many informative materials cost nothing and teach you invaluable tips.

You'll work closely with your local foster care agency. You'll always have at least one point of contact to turn to if you have questions.

Don't forget about creating a support network. Make sure to include other foster parents and advocates from your area. You'll face obstacles on your journey, such as navigating the legal system or saying goodbye. Having the right person on your side for support makes all the difference.

Very disappointed overall. My son was placed for 30 days by the judge to have a “reality check” During those 28 days my son reported cursing, swearing, yelling at him by several staff members. I encouraged just riding it out and getting through it doing what was necessary. He only received 1 pass home for 4 hours in those 28 days. Somehow managed to get a cell phone in which is unclear me me since they search upon dismissal and arrival. Clearly need to improve there. Once it was discovered my son had a cell phone the Staff member (Dinkamike Thuch) physically grabbed my son while trying to take a phone from him. When I brought it to other staff attention was not investigated or even taken seriously. When I stated I would be pressing charges I was laughed at by a white male and female staff member (names unknown) and told “would not hold up” and “good luck” This is supposed to be a rehabilitation center for children not where they get physically assaulted by adults. I will say Day time manager Justin was present upon my arrival and did not part take in the conversation however removed himself which I can respect.

My experiences with CSI have mainly been with the early childhood education center. My daughter is currently in one of the toddler rooms and we have been very pleased with her education and care. I love that the center is NAEYC certified, the educators are experienced and qualified, education plans are made for each child and updated regularly, the center regularly communicates with parents, and they stay up to date with the latest developments and research in early chlidhood ed.
