Requirements to become a foster parent

Foster parents receive a maintenance payment to help cover some of the care costs of raising a child. The rate parents receive varies depending on the child's age and their special needs. Foster children also receive a clothing allowance, covering their medical needs.

The Missouri Department of Social Services website shows you the latest rates.

However, these maintenance payments aren't always enough. Everything from school supplies to toys can cut into that budget. Many businesses and organizations are stepping up to help cover the gaps and assist foster families.

Foster Together provides a walk-in shopping service for foster children free of charge. Kids can find new and like-new clothing, toys, car seats, and more.

Foster parents caring for younger children can look to Nurses for Newborns, which provides health assessments, screenings, education, and more support.

Another valuable resource is respite care, which gives foster parents a break when needed. Respite foster care is a temporary service offered by other trained foster families. It's also useful in the event of an emergency situation.

This organization has the right idea but one of their employees is a bad apple in the bunch. Samuel Pilkinton is his name and if you are assigned to him ask for someone else. He is unprofessional. He will not refrain from emasculating and embarrassing you in front of your children. Very unprofessional. I hope to check back at this website some day and find that he is no longer employed here b/c he does nothing but make promises he never intends to deliver on and then berate and badger you in front of your children till you've had enough of him and then he has the stones to say you threatened him when he was the one who threatens you saying, "Well you had better think fast or else." If that's not a threat I dont know what is.

Don't Trust Samuel Pilkinton.

Do NOT trust them. Many things I could tell you if I had the space. They worked hard and succeeded at keeping us from adopting our grandkids when the parents lost parental rights. My husband and I have always been responsible people. We should not have lost the fight to adopt them. The additional result of that loss was my son trying to kill himself by overdosing. He was found, brought back to life but it is not a life anybody would want. His lack of oxygen caused severe brain damage. Hate is a strong word but I hate BFT.
