We believe every child needs a safe place to live, and caring, supportive relationships to thrive.

The need for safe and supportive homes for children in transition continues to grow. In 2018, about 6,700 Minnesotan children entered foster care. The number of children in Minnesota foster care on an average day rose 14% from 2016 to 2018, with estimated 10,050 children in out-of-home placement daily.

We serve:

Youth from infancy to age 18 who are in need of out-of-home care.
Youth and young adults with therapeutic needs.
Young adults aged 18 – 21 who meet certain eligibility requirements.
Our goal is to reunify children to their family and community whenever possible. We currently have a great need for families able and willing to foster sibling groups, school-aged children and older youth. We are also seeking foster families who are supportive and affirming of LGBTQ youth..

Requirements to become a foster parent

There are several support services available for foster parents in Minnesota. Let's take a look at what's available:

Support Payments

Minnesotan foster parents receive a monthly basic payment to help with the care costs of the foster child. Payments vary depending on the child's age and circumstances. They start at $650 per month.

In some circumstances, foster parents can also receive a difficulty of care supplemental monthly rate. These payments help support children with physical and mental difficulties and can be up to $1,500 per month.

Medical and Dental Coverage

In Minnesota, foster children receive Medicaid coverage for their medical and dental needs.

The foster parents are responsible for arranging the child's medical care and must attend all necessary appointments to maintain their health and well-being.

Training and Support Groups

There are plenty of support groups and resources available for foster parents in Minnesota. These services offer ongoing support and an opportunity to share experiences with other people in the same situation as you.

Additional training can also help you be the best caregiver possible for your foster kid.

If your an adoptee they will hold you hostage if you want to know who your birth parents are. You have to pay a randsome to get that information. So they charge your adoptive parents a fee for you and then they charge you to find your birth parents. How easy is it, your original birth certificate is at the hospital where you were born. With all the needed names for you to search yourself for free on the internet. How much does that cost? Give me a name and a birthday , i can find you for under 50 dollars. Maybe 30 years ago the cost factor made sense. But technology has proven that its not applicable now.
Oh, one more thing, they have the name of your birth mother and her birthday. How much does it cost in time and money to google a name and birthday. Are you kidding me. Im beside myself. Charge me to google when google doesnt even charge to use them.

My wife and I are new to this Avenue of foster and adoption and I called to get more information before proceeding and was greeted almost immediately by a loving voice and then transferred to such a sweet woman who just made me feel so welcome and at ease on the phone as she patiently handled all of my inquiries and concerns with care and complete peace.. I had so many questions answered and not once was I rushed or made to feel foolish for not knowing how things worked with this option or that .. I felt respected and heard and loved. I highly recommend working with these deeply kind humans. They have sincere care for the children and potential foster/adoptive families. They are clear and to the point and so comforting and calm.

I might be biased as I've worked here for a year. I would recommend LSS to potential employees and those looking for services alike. The company really seems to care about their employees and rewards them accordingly. This translates to happier employees that care more about their jobs and the people they care for. Highly recommended!
