At Catholic Social Services, we have been sharing and listening to each other’s stories about the challenging times we are facing together in our country surrounding grief and injustice because of recent acts of violence.

We have been reading literature, sharing information, and discussing experiences to help us formulate how we can meaningfully build upon our current mission, core values, and Catholic social teachings. We believe this work will allow us to fortify processes that continue to promote conscious decisions and actions that are inclusive, respectful, and loving of all our stakeholders – our clients, employees, and the community that we support and support us.

The work of Catholic Social Services is the work of the Catholic Church, which unequivocally denounces racism, discrimination, injustice, and violence in all forms. Inherent to our mission is defending and caring for the oppressed, marginalized, and forgotten within our community, promoting the dignity and value of every individual, and respecting our shared humanity. Our unwavering commitment to these core values remains strong in the face of increasing injustice. As a social service agency, we will continue to be a learning organization that strives to live and promote the Gospel message of equality and justice, with the dignity and love of neighbor that is the foundation of our Catholic social teachings.

Serving all faiths, all ages, and all walks of life.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Parents can access the Michigan Foster Care Portal (MFCP), which is a tool that helps expedite licensure. The portal can track progress and list the next steps a foster parent needs to take. The MFCP also contains FAQs and helpful guides for parents.

In addition to online tools, foster families also receive some financial support. How much they receive depends on the child's age and needs. Parents may also be entitled to additional reimbursement that covers care costs.

Plus, foster families can access many local and state-wide support organizations and advocacy groups. These groups provide resources, answer questions, and are happy to help form connections between foster parents.

Your foster care agency is always there if you have questions or concerns. Their goal is to ensure the child's well-being and assist parents through the fostering process and beyond.

Another path you might want to consider is co-parenting with the birth parents. The end goal in most foster cases is to reunite a child with their parents or primary caregiver. You'll work with the birth parents anyway to set up visitations, and co-parenting can make your job easier.

Working further with the birth parents can also make the entire fostering process less stressful for a child. They won't feel as if they have to "choose" between homes and families.

We had a wonderful experience six years ago with them adopting our son. We have recommended to many people. Would do it all again.

Ive been calling around trying to get services and everyone (including my health insurance) points to a person at this facility. Ive been trying to get in contact with this person for months, left several voice mails and even tried contacting anyone else in the office for assistance but i still haven't heard anything. Depression only just got worse because of this..

WE FIRST MET ELLY AND THE REST OF THE CSS STAFF AT AN INTRODUCTORY ADOPTION CLASS IN 2011 AND ADOPTED OUR DAUGHTER IN 2012. FROM THE FIRST CLASS, WE JUST FELT LIKE WE WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE FOR OUR ADOPTION AND FOR THE FIRST TIME CONSIDERED AN OPEN ADOPTION. CSS IS THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL PARTIES INVOLVED IN THE ADOPTION PROCESS ARE CARED FOR IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. THEY CARE ABOUT THE BIRTH MOTHER, THE PARENTS ADOPTING AND THE BABY THAT IS INVOLVED. ADOPTION CAN BE A LENGTHY AND EMOTIONAL PROCESS FOR ALL INVOLVED AND CSS IS THERE TO HELP YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

I can not explain how wonderful Catholic Social Services is. They were with us through the whole adoption experience. What I love most about them is they care for everyone in the adoption process. They take care of the adoptive parents(which we were) but they also give great counseling to the birth mothers. Our experience was wonderful. I am so glad CSS recommends open adoptions, because we not only have a wonderful baby but we have a good relationship with the birth parents. Also Elly is fabulous! She was definitely the reason we chose CSS.
