Bluegrass Foster Services (BFS) is a Therapeutic Foster Placing Agency. Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) is a clinical intervention, which includes placement in specifically trained foster parent homes, for youth with severe mental, emotional, or behavioral health needs. This includes developmentally delayed youth whose physical and emotional health needs require more intensive clinical and medical intervention than can be accommodated in traditional foster care. In and of itself, TFC is not a placement. It includes the placement of a child in a specialized TFC home. BFS will recruit, train, and support TFC foster parents and provide licensed clinical staff to oversee a youth’s individualized treatment plan and to provide therapeutic services such as individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, case coordination, and medication support.

BFS places children ages birth through 21 in our TFC homes. However, our priority is the youth ages 11-18 who have completed our residential treatment program. We strive to place these kids into Bluegrass Foster Services TFC homes first, if possible.

Requirements to become a foster parent

You'll still have support and guidance when you receive a foster placement. Kentucky has continued training and can connect new foster parents with experienced families through the Foster Parent Mentor Program.

Having access to an experienced foster family is invaluable. You'll be able to connect with other adults who have advice and can provide coaching to make your parenting journey easier.

Your local child-placing agency is one of your best sources of information and foster parenting services.

Nonprofit child welfare organizations approved by the state recruit resource parents, provide resources, and offer training and general support. When you attend the informational orientation and parent training, you'll receive books and resources that tell you more about the many available foster parent support groups.

Great place... I was there for a long time , and the staff was ALWAYS there for me when I needed to talk or needed to get out my anger . And even though I almost got into really bad deep trouble because I would get mad at one of the girls that was there , the staff always talk to me and told me the bad benefits of fighting her. I just now discharged on May.31, 2018 . It was hard for the first couple of months being "FREE" .... It really did hit me but; when I got out of the habit .... I didn't get as angry. That place actually helped me because I didn't FAKE trying to get better.- past resident
