Requirements to become a foster parent
Start by researching the state requirements for new parents. In Kansas, all foster parents must:
- Be 21 years or older
- Maintain financial stability
- Live in a safe and comfortable home
- Pass the home inspection
- Provide enough personal space for a foster child
- Clear a background check (all adults in the house)
- Have a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle
- Finish required foster parent training
- Complete the Home Study Process
Good foster parenting requires your best effort, but not "perfect" parenting. Spend time to learn about the foster care system and the information given to you during training and orientation. Once you have become a licensed foster parent, focus on your foster child's wants, needs, and overall well-being.
To learn more about becoming a foster parent in Kansas, contact your local child-placing agency. These social service agencies are state-approved to match foster children with licensed foster care homes.
Every foster agency provides orientation, where you will receive information about foster care and how to obtain a license. Orientation will help you decide if fostering a child is the right path for you and your family. If you are married or in a relationship, ask yourselves questions before committing to fostering together.
After orientation, your next step is the family assessment process, including the Home Study. A social worker at your local child-placing agency will help you through every step.

Just thought all you parents should know... Don't pay your medical bills from this place. They will never send you to collections and they will eventually write 100% off. You're welcome.

Kvc is horrible to deal with. They cause post tramatic stress in parents and dont understand or acknowlede it in any way. Not only parents but the childeren as well. Having degrees in various thing like psychology, im shocked that they dont pick up on that. Not a single employee knows that parents need there kids And to see, hold and play with them is often the best therapy. Kvc makes mistakes. Then lies to cover those mistakes. They never have a male present for UAs. Then hold you responsible for it. Then proceeds to punish you for it. simple life skills like thinking of different scenarios and out comes to make rite decisions in life is considered paranoia. Visits are to short. They are very judgemental. They lack sympathy and consideration for parents. There conduct is very poor. And contrary to there own beliefs they are not always rite. Some employees lack some strongly needed life experiance.

We've had the honor of working with KVC for the past 6+ years. Their teams are filled with brilliant, caring people who strive to make a positive difference for children and families every day. They continue to push themselves as an organization and have been nationally recognized time and again for their incredible, trauma-informed work in child welfare and behavioral healthcare—both by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and through collaborations with organizations like NYU and Sesame Street in Communities. They've accomplished so much good in their 50-year history, and we have no doubt they will only continue to do so in the next 50!

EXTREMELY disrespectful for no reason over the phone. Talked to like an idiot over a simple question. Very unprofessional attitude from both the ladies I spoke to here. Do not recommend. Don’t waste your time.
