Abby’s One True Gift Adoptions is a full-service licensed adoption agency. We specialize in matching adoptive families with birthmothers on a national scale. We offer home study and post-placement services, full legal representation in both the adoptive family’s and birth mother’s state, as well as counseling for families and birthmothers. Requirements to become a foster parent
Many new parents are worried they'll be on their own if they decide to foster. That's not true; you have tons of support on your side.
You have the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). Your local DHS recruits and approves families for fostering and adoption. They also place children with approved parents.
The Iowa Foster & Adoptive Parents Association has handbooks, contact phone numbers, information on training and case plans, useful PDFs for foster parents, and more online.
You also have your local child-placing agency for assistance. They're licensed and approved to train parents and place children in homes. You can find information on how to navigate the legal system or tips for working with birth parents, for example.
Many state non-profits dedicate themselves to assisting foster youth and the families caring for them. They may help with basic care, such as clothing or food, or educate parents on specific topics.

Horrible experience. Lack of communication, lost lots of money, and they tried to blame us. They did not research the birth mother or do their due diligence finding birth father.

If I could give zero stars I would. Ashley would take days to respond to my emails but would immediately respond to my husband. She would go weeks without making contact with us. We were matched with a very sick baby girl and choose to walk away, after that they stop communicating with us . I left Pam the director a voicemail to address my concerns. I'm still waiting on a return call. No thanks to Abbys we were matched and placed with a perfect baby boy in December.

My husband and I have nothing but good things to say about Abby's One True Gift Adoptions. On April 19, 2018, we had an initial call with one of the social workers, Jodi Beavers. She was very thorough in explaining the process and how they might differ from other agencies out there. We were excited to join their pool of waiting families, so we signed on with them the following day and were officially approved and ready to be matched. After having waited 3.5 yrs with another agency, we weren't expecting to hear from them for a year or two. We were in for a big surprise. On May 16 we received a call from Jodi who described a prospective birth mom and her situation. We were matched that same day (less than 1 month after signing on with them). Our son was born on July 6, 2018 and we were at the hospital for his birth. Throughout the entire process Jodi was great at communicating with us and very responsive to our emails/texts and keeping us in the loop. She was great to work with! Jodi was extremely accommodating. We were told we would be getting discharged from the hospital Sunday morning (and she needed to be there for discharge), so she was there for us. After she arrived we learned we couldn't be discharged until the following day, so she returned the next morning without complaint. We used their Traditional Services which includes their legal, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Our son was born on a Friday night. Their attorney came to the hospital Saturday morning to go through paperwork with both us and the birth mom. She had everything submitted to Iowa ICPC on Tuesday, and on Wednesday we had clearance from our state to head home (that might be a record!) It truly felt that both Jodi and the attorney were bending over backwards for us to make the process go as smoothly and quickly as possible. Having worked through another agency/attorney for a previous adoption, I can assure you that not all agencies are like this! We had evaluated more than 30 agencies/facilitators, weighing the pros and cons of each (primarily their fees, number of waiting families, number of matches per year, and estimated wait times), before deciding that Abby's One True Gift was the obvious choice. We are truly blessed to have come across them and will most definitely be returning to them when we're ready to adopt another child. Thank you, Jodi, and everyone at Abby's One True Gift!

We had a good experience with Abby's. We developed a relationship with our caseworker and I was able to text her whenever I needed to. We were matched in April 2016, baby born in August, and finalized March 3017. We wouldn't be where we are today without them.
