It’s giving a child a safe place to land during a hard, scary time when they’re away from home. And it’s showing compassion to a parent who is likely overwhelmed, scared, and without a lot of support.
It’s helping a child stay connected to the only home they’ve ever known, in whatever way it’s safe to do so, and cheering on a family that’s living out a comeback story.
At Bethany, our heart beats for family. We want to see families strong, supported, and together. But we know there are times when families face challenges—and children need care.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Foster parents in Indiana have access to a variety of services and support. These services include:
Support Payments
As a foster parent, you will receive a daily payment from DCS to help cover the costs of caring for a foster child. The amount varies depending on the age and needs of the child, but payments start at $18.88/day.
Foster parents are also eligible for an initial clothing expense payment of up to $200.00 and an Annual Personal Allowance of up to $300.00 per child per year. This payment becomes available when the child has been in placement for at least eight days.
Additionally, DCS provides a Special Occasion Allowance of up to $50.00 on
child’s birthday and during the December holidays.
Medical and Dental Coverage
In Indiana, children in foster care are entitled to receive Medicaid coverage for their medical and dental needs.
However, it is the responsibility of the foster parents to schedule and attend all medical and dental appointments for the child. This means that foster parents must make sure that the child receives proper medical care and attends all necessary appointments to maintain their health and well-being.
Training and Support Groups
Foster parents have access to ongoing training and support groups to help them navigate the challenges of fostering. Support groups provide a space for foster parents to connect with others who understand the unique challenges of fostering.

As of 2021, there were over 13,000 children in foster care in Indiana. However, there are only 6,200 licensed foster parents. Most children in Indiana foster care are between ages 8 and 16. On average, they stayed an average of 14.3 months in foster care.
Sadly, children who exit foster care have a higher likelihood of experiencing homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration than their peers who did not experience foster care.

I believe we are Bless to be a Blessing. Thanks to Bethany for opening a door to some wonderful lifetime experiences. Here I thought we would bless someone and we got the biggest blessing of all. It has not always been easy but they make it easier. I can truly say they made the difference. Thankful that we said yes to Bethany Christian Services. It has made all the difference.

If you are looking for an agency to help with open adoption, do not go here. This agency specifically Barb caused immense trauma to myself and my daughter. When our adoption did not go through, I was not allowed to contact my daughter or see her. She was moved to an unknown family, who I had never met, without my consent, despite the adoption contract which stated that she would be returned to my custody should the adoption not be finalized. No phone number or address was provided to me for the new family. This agency states they do not arrange foster care, yet they placed my child with another family even though I was willing and able to pick her up from the adoptive mother. And even more, a DCS assessment was opened so the police refused to assist me in getting my daughter back. Do not trust Barb!!

I would HIGHLY recommend Bethany Christian Services! They have walked our family through 3 adoptions. The staff at Bethany are very friendly and have a passion for family and children. Because they are very trustworthy and thorough, we were confident that our adoptions were going to get done in a professional manner yet with lots of care and compassion. Their love extended to EVERYONE involved in the adoption process. Our social worker made herself very accessible and was always eager to help and answer any questions we had. I would recommend Bethany Christian Services to everyone!

The staff at Bethany is wonderful! We never felt out of the loop. Our questions were always answered promptly. Once it was time to travel, Bethany took care of that too. In country, we had guides that would make sure we were where we were supposed to be, when we were supposed to be there. We've been home with our daughter, from China, for almost 3 years!

We worked with Bethany to adopt our sons from Ethiopia. We appreciated that they connected us with other adoptive families, provided resources and continuing education after we brought our boys home and have been a resource in the years since. We felt like we had help at every step of the process and it's been great to know that we can turn to Bethany as needed as our boys continue to grow and understand their histories. A friend recommended Bethany to us and we have in turn recommended them to others. We have always felt that they act with integrity and for the well-being of children.
