Requirements to become a foster parent
You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Illinois. To become a foster parent, you must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Attend foster parent orientation
- Pass a background check
- Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
- Complete the Home Study
- Provide at least three references
- Clear a physical exam
- Maintain financial stability
Foster families must be able to provide a safe and comfortable home for a child. You must provide room for the child to have a bed and enough space for personal belongings.
Foster parents do not need to be married or have a partner. However, if married, couples must show a stable marriage of at least one year before they can foster a child in Illinois.
Foster parents need to meet a child's basic care needs, such as providing meals and clothing. Foster families must also support a foster child's education and assist them in developing social skills.

Staff is horrible ! I done tried to contact my case worker more then I can count last I talked to her she was getting on a plan to deal with another case (which wasn’t my business), I even went thru her supervisor and her supervisor “supervisor” and still nothing !! But they wanna put false information into my service plan when they not doing they job in returning a call or emailing me back to see where Iam with things if your dealing with them go above their head to speak with someone because this is just a check to these people and they don’t care forreal

Excellent and supportive staff to help with adoptions. Cannot say enough good things about Lutheran Child and Family Services and Laurie Lawton, director of adoptions, in particular. Laurie is a kind, wise, experienced social worker who works closely with birth mothers and adoptive families to do what is best for a potential adoptive child, birth parent and adoptive parent. Laurie goes above and beyond, making certain that everyone's needs are met; she is not pushy and respects and guides a person towards the best decision for them. She understands the complexities of these situations and has a kind heart to support people through it. There are a lot of ups and downs with an adoption process, but with the counsel of Laurie and the LCFS team on your side, a birth family and adoptive family will be guided to the best decision and everything will be handled ethically, professionally and with a caring touch because they truly care about everyone involved in this emotional process. Laurie came highly recommended by an attorney who specifically said for a complex situation she wouldn't trust any other agency or person to handle this correctly. This proved true. All paperwork, all processes, all the ups and downs were managed with the grace of a pro. When you find an agency and a person like Laurie to help you through a process of placing your child for adoption or of adopting a child and this person is of the superb character that Laurie has, you have one less thing to worry about.

This place do not help with anything my case manager told me to look for a apartment for me and my two sons and I'm supposed to get the Norman fund well that's not going happen even though I found the townhouse for us but we still need beds and now it's that's a problem because they stated that I might be able to get the normal funds..smh
