Requirements to become a foster parent

The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.

Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.

There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.

One of the best ways to become a better parent, whether you plan on fostering a child short-term or adopting, is to read as much as you can about Georgia's foster system. For instance, recently proposed bills would help to streamline parts of the state's foster care placement system.

You can find plenty of information available online for free as well. Blogs, podcasts, and videos are all incredibly useful ways to obtain new information about fostering.

Going to be a long story so buckle up.

More than a year ago, I lost insurance and couldn't afford to see my usual doctor. I started going here and saw a counselor and a doctor. I saw my counselor around 3 times and he deemed me alright for just seeing a nurse and doctor. A couple of months after my doctor's appointment, I get a letter in the mail saying my chart had been cancelled. Finding it odd, I went and spoke to the receptionist. She told me my chart was canceled due to inactivity. Shocked, I explained I was never contacted again to make a appointment or anything of that sort. She explained I'd have to go through the recertifying process again. Which takes literally ALL DAY. I do that, speak to a new counselor and explained what happened. She said that was fine and files my info away. I see the new doctor a couple of times and everything is great. A couple of weeks ago, I get a call saying I need a nurses assessment before I see the doctor just because I needed my info updated. So I go this morning for my appointment just to get told I can't see the nurse because I have get scheduled to see the counselor and then the doctor because I'm not on med matinence (nurse and doctor only) which I had already explained to her about what had happened months ago so I shouldn't have to see a counselor. Now due to my work schedule, I have to have things planned in advance. This resulted in me getting scheduled a MONTH from now. I am beyond aggravated at this point.

TLDR: This facility isn't worth your time or trouble.

New to the facility. Counselor Janet is great. Very professional and caring. NP karen brazzle seems to be a good nurse practitioner. Seemed to really want to help. For people like me who are seriously struggling with life, she seemed to care. And wants to help.

these people are not concerned about your mental health, infact they are not concerned about you at all. they are concerned about money. save your time, save your mental health & go to somewhere that cares or atleast does a better job at pretending.. in a world where you can't even find someone to talk to even if you pay them.. its dark for me, this place may have been my last hope. who cares? apparently they don't!

Mayhap they should change their hours of operation. It says 8 am but, believe me, they aren't answering the phone at 8. Perhaps be more accurate. Idk if it's 9 when they finally start answering or if you're just hosed completely. Hope my appointment isn't any time soon because they won't answer and I am not sure.

I just started going back last week. They have been very patient with me. And as someone who suffers from conversion disorder so far they have been treating it well. They have also done an amazing job on making sure that I understand what they're saying and plans that they plan on doing.
