The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and Fox 5 Atlanta partner to sponsor Wednesday’s Child, an award-winning program and a national campaign with a proven track record of success aimed at increasing the number of adoptions of children in foster care. Featured children are usually past the age of eight (8), sibling groups and/or children with special needs who have been in the foster care system for some time and would love to be adopted into a forever family.

The desire and open heart to support children and families are among the most important criteria for becoming a Foster or Adoptive Parent. The ability to act as a positive role model, parent, mentor, and supporter for children, while their families rebuild, is the foundation of Partnership Parenting

Requirements to become a foster parent

The DHS assists foster families with placement and ensures the child adjusts well to their new environment. Whether you have years of parenting experience or are relatively new to the idea, they have many support options for families. You can find plenty of information on the DHS/DFCS website or call them for more assistance.

Your local licensed child placement agency also places children in the foster system with carefully matched parents. Although foster care is temporary, it's crucial to find the right fit. That's why parents get a say in age range and gender.

There are also many state support groups for foster families that provide educational resources, services, and more. Connecting with these organizations and adding to your personal support network will be invaluable.

One of the best ways to become a better parent, whether you plan on fostering a child short-term or adopting, is to read as much as you can about Georgia's foster system. For instance, recently proposed bills would help to streamline parts of the state's foster care placement system.

You can find plenty of information available online for free as well. Blogs, podcasts, and videos are all incredibly useful ways to obtain new information about fostering.

The system is severely broken down. No one can help answer questions. They doesn't care about you or anyone else, there's no reason for their existence. The federal government needs to shut them down and start all over. Several people are in dire straights because of the way this organization is run.

The security guard, she will not give you her name, with the short black hair cut to her chin, standing back right in photo, she may get away with talking to bilinguals nasty but that doesn't work on fluent speaking native tongue individuals. She directs people were to stand but talks to them in insulting ways. I was given a ticket and told to stand at Navigator 3 when finished filling out my forms. I did as I saw other's doing and stood in line. The security guard, instead of talking to anyone else in the line or the whole line singled me out and began to talk to me harshly. Telling me not to do what other people are doing, I need to sit down; In my perspective I'm just being picked on and bullied. I asked her to get away from me she's not helping me and she mocked me and retrieved her supervisor, that's fine because I just let her know the rude remarks that were said to me. Her Supervisor wore a white shirt and did not want to tell me this woman's name either. That means you plan to not help people and treat them with out respect before the day starts.
The only woman who had her manners about her and lovely behavior despite what is going on is the woman sitting behind Navigator 3 on the left wearing blue pants and shirt, light complexion and golden short haired curls with glasses. She was even quick, she only had to find a printer her department isn't supplied with. Even the woman in Navigator window 3 sitting to the right was nasty and she wasn't even the one to help me. A man came saying he heard his number and she said for me to hear "See if you're just patient you number will be called quickly", For me, my number was not called I was waved over, plus my situation, I dealt with a security guard harassing me.
If you don't have it in your soul to help people. try not filling out an application here. When you're rude to people like the security guard, you only ruin your own day. I leave here in 15 minutes. You're only tainting your own environment and they give off an attitude like they don't want Georgia constituents there, the more people yall have walking through the door the more it insures your position there with the company. Why it seems like its security's goal to be nasty to you at that office or any other worker, makes no sense. They're just supposed to guide you, I'm not a 3 year old naughty child, talk to me as you want someone talking to you.

Took forever to get approved for benefits because they keep making appointments for dates before I even receive the notice about the appointment in the mail so I end up missing it. Then I finally got approved and had to renew them and they got cut off because I was supposed to reapply before March 31st and didn’t get noticed about it until April 2nd. Then you can’t get anybody on the phone or get them to ever call you back! This system is just so messed up but they don’t care because it’s not them needing help.
