Protecting Kids: Dependency Case Management
Children unable to live safely at home find security, guidance, and opportunity with CHS. Our priority is always their safety and well-being, and our case managers are passionate about building bridges to success for children in foster care.

We also empower kids to realize their full potential by providing opportunities for counseling, tutoring, other educational activities, recreational activities, mentoring, and more.

Are you a current foster parent with feedback to share with CHS? Complete this short form to let us know what’s on your mind! We read every single submission, and someone will respond to you soon.

Early Childhood Court

Our Early Childhood Court program is committed to helping families succeed. Our dedicated team of advocates, therapists, child welfare professionals, and service providers work alongside the family’s case manager to help them achieve well-being and success. Keeping the child’s best interests at hand, the young child will either return home to their parents or begin their new journey to a forever family through adoption on an expedited timeline.

Protecting Kids: Foster Homes
We recruit, license, and support loving foster families that provide stability and safety to children amid uncertainty.

Requirements to become a foster parent

Many adults are eligible to become foster parents in their state but do not always realize it. Each state in the U.S. has regulations and requirements for licensing foster parents. Florida does not require parents to own a large home or quit their jobs and become stay-at-home parents. Florida foster parents must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Prove good health and ability to care for a child
  • Maintain a stable income
  • Pass a background screening
  • Finish 30 hours of foster parent training
  • Complete a Home Study

The required training course is free to aspiring foster parents. It helps parents learn how to foster children and become licensed to provide foster care in Florida.

I was a foster child with these people. I was with them for many years. I am now 27 yrs old. I want to let anyone know how horrible the case workers are. They don't only neglect and don't listen to what the children or adolecants have to say but they dose them up on meds that are not needed... I was also in the group home behind them in safe harbor. It's far from a safe place. I was abused, mistreated and picked on by staff and other children. Also I would run away to be safe and I would get told that I'm a threat or not safe to myself because I would not stay put. I was told that I always lied. But I never did, I told the truth. I feel bad for those children and adolecants who have to deal with the staff and people that are affiliated with this place. I am only coming out now cause I feel like I need to let people know. The kids are not the ones who are corrupt it's the staff. And if it's not them they make you that way. I wish I had the power to shut this place down!!!! Along with the Group Home behind them SAFE Harbor. Sorry about any punctuation or grammar I am using speak to text. I would never recommend foster care or group homes. I am still recovering from any of the mental abuse that I endured. Thank God physical abuse can physically heal because if that was visible on top of all the mental scarring I don't know what I'd be able to do with my life. I am so messed up from how I was treated like I had no voice no matter how much I spoke up. Janice Irving was a negligent caseworker. Tanya Cheatham was also negligent.
