Every year children enter the system when their biological parent is unable or unfit to take care of them. Kids Crossing provides foster care in Colorado Springs. As one of the largest fostering agencies in the state, we aim to provide every child in need with a temporary guardian to care for them during these difficult times. One of the main reason a child gets placed into the foster care system is because their parent or guardian has neglected them. By becoming a foster parent, you can help these children get back on their feet. Not only will you be providing them basic necessities like housing and food, but you will also be able to help guide them, love them, and show them the care they deserve and need. Some of the children in the foster system may have experienced abuse in one form or another. By caring for them you will be helping them get through these hard times in their lives.
If you’re looking for the opportunity to change a life, you’ve found it. Kids Crossing helps people just like you become foster parents every day.Even as grown adults, many of us remember what it was like growing up in a stable home, and how that stability helped us mature and grow. But some of us also know what it’s like to not have that stability or a healthy relationship with our parents.

Requirements to become a foster parent

You must meet minimum requirements to provide foster care for children in Colorado. Foster parents for children and families must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Maintain sufficient income to support a family
  • Have physical and mental capability to care for children and youth
  • Pass a child abuse background and criminal background check
  • Work with a treatment team and undergo future training
  • Complete a Home Study

Prospective foster families can contact a Colorado child placement agency or your local Department of Human Services. Social workers in these child welfare agencies will provide information about Colorado's child welfare system, foster care, and the adoption process.

Social workers recommended that other adults and children in your home agree to provide long-term home care, too. If everyone is ready to welcome a new child, your local agency will help your home become an approved foster home.
