Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

If your child lives with Olive Crest beware. Foster Families are not actually employed by Olive Crest so if they abuse your child and report it they will do nothing. All the Olive Crest Foster Families are contracted through Community Care Licensing. So if your a family dealing with a run around like I am maybe this will help. I thought I could trust Foster care with my child that is wrong and Olive Crest doesn't hold accountability for employees actions.

Our family has been fostering through Olive Crest for a couple years now, and we have loved our experience! We enjoy working with such an incredible organization that works so well alongside the county. Throughout our fostering journey, we have received so much help and support along the way. Their staff are very friendly and organized. I would highly recommend families go though Olive Crest to foster.

I was a client and lived in there transitional homes. I lived in several apartments they had and all of them were infested with mold and bugs. They do not care to move you into an unhealthy living environment. Their "services" are primarily focused on doing their personal paperwork for the job. They will be quick to write ups and don't genuinely connect with the client. They're there for 1 reason. Government money .

Olive Crest has been such a blessing to us. If you’re wondering whether or not you should choose this agency, do it! You won’t be disappointed. Their support alone is unlike any other. There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a child… Olive Creat is your village. They celebrate with you, cry with you, and walk along side the very hard journey of Foster Care with you. I honestly don’t think I could have made it through our journey without our amazing case manager and the support Olive Crest has given me and our family.
