Bethany Christian Services-South
Being a foster parent is so much more than loving a child in your home. It’s also showing kindness to a family when they need it most.
It’s giving a child a safe place to land during a hard, scary time when they’re away from home. And it’s showing compassion to a parent who is likely overwhelmed, scared, and without a lot of support.
It’s helping a child stay connected to the only home they’ve ever known, in whatever way it’s safe to do so, and cheering on a family that’s living out a comeback story.
At Bethany, our heart beats for family. We want to see families strong, supported, and together. But we know there are times when families face challenges—and children need care.
That’s why we’re seeking foster parents who believe in families too.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

Watch out! This religious corporation is extremely manipulative and deceptive. They spend a lot of time removing honest reviews, if they spent more time actually helping people like they preach they wouldn’t have to hide peoples feedback left & right. I’m posting copies of citations for adoption violations Bethany was cited for in la Mirada California. This agency is not doing the lords work, they have injured innocent children and families for life which includes me.
A mistake repeated more than once is a choice . There’s to many of us saying the same thing, Bethany Christian services separates vulnerable families through cheating.

** 2020-12 update: after reading some of the negative reviews from biological moms or their relatives, I wanted to share a bit more about my and my wife's relationship with our adopted child's biological family: we have an open adoption. It's been almost 3 years so far and we share pictures and periodic email updates with the biological family. Per the birth mother's choice, we currently do not have physical contact but this could change in the future. They send both our adopted baby and our biological baby gifts and a card every Christmas. As far as I can tell, we have treated the biological family very well and am not aware of any issues. **
I have used Bethany Christian Services to adopt a baby and I would readily use them again.
Here's why:
- they honor the birth parents and do not treat them as second-class citizens
- they respond very quickly to texts/calls/messages
- they keep us informed of the current stage we are at and what we can expect coming up (there are lots of stages and forms when adopting...)
- you do not have to pay again if the first adoption attempt 'falls through'
- the staff are generally very nice and caring
- they have a Christian perspective
