Alpha Family Services
Alpha Treatment Centers, Foster Family Agency, was founded by Marilyn Lang, M.S., in 1987. Marilyn was a former child protection social worker with San Bernardino County Social Services.
While with Child Protective Services, she was often unsettled by the number of failed placements and the obvious lack of appropriate Resource homes capable of providing treatment.
It was these traumatized and neglected children that this program was developed to assist; this program gives children a chance for a better future, and prevents the need for group home or institutional care.

Requirements to become a foster parent
Many do not realize the need for new resource families in California. The number of foster kids outnumber the foster families who can provide short or long-term care. Foster advocates work hard to find places for these children, but it is not easy.
The latest 2021 report from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) report in California says there are:
- 47,871 kids in California's foster care system
- 22,892 who entered foster care
- 15,386 foster kids awaiting adoption
- California foster kids across all ages, with a median of 8 years
- 33% whose foster child case plans include adoption
A child's median time in the California foster care system is over a year at 16.8 months. 13% spend 3-4 years in foster care.
California needs foster parents to take in multiple children if they have the time and energy to care for them. Sibling groups often need care, and it is essential to support these family bonds. In California, it is challenging to find homes for teenagers, though they need stable environments and reliable adults to support them.

My husband and I searched for an adoption agency for quite some time. We landed with Alpha and could not be happier. The support and training that they offer is top notch. I did not meet one single person at that agency that was not helpful or supportive. Especially in the beginning....I have a lot of questions and was on the phone with them for hours at a time. WE could not have made it through the process without the love and support of Erika Diaz!!! She was fantastic in every way. We were matched with two of the most amazing littles. Which we have now adopted and can call ours forever!! We chose to do the foster/Adopt route, it is very challenging and lots of hoops to jump through, but well worth it in the end. If you are looking to foster or adopt please consider the phenomenal staff at Alpha!
