Everyone deserves a family.

Fostering and adopting change lives forever. All it takes is one person to be the bridge a child needs to lead a better life.

Each year, Pressley Ridge helps thousands of children learn, grow, and thrive through the support of a safe and nurturing foster home. And it all starts with one person deciding to be the difference for a child in need.

Children who enter treatment foster care bring with them their own set of special needs – most importantly, the need for a stable family life. These children, infants to age 21, are affected by trauma and, as a result, may have behavioral or emotional needs. Our foster parents are specially trained to support a child’s emotional and developmental needs. Pressley Ridge professionals, who provide a caring support network 24 hours a day, seven days a week, continually support them.

Everyone faces challenges in life. Given the right tools, skills and support, everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Through our trauma-sensitive approach and family engagement model, Pressley Ridge’s goal is to create lifelong connections that result in a successful, happy life.

Requirements to become a foster parent

When you want to apply to become a foster parent, your first step should be contacting the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources or a private foster agency. An advocate will reach out to you and answer any questions you have. Your foster agency is one of your best sources of support.

West Virginia HealthCheck is an Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment program available to kids in foster care. Through the program, foster children receive a variety of care options, including appointments for primary health and preventative services. Kids also receive dental screenings, immunizations, behavioral and developmental assessments, etc.

Foster parents may receive a subsidy for each foster child in their care as well as clothing allowances and vouchers. Talk to your foster agency to learn more about monthly foster care payments, as these vary depending on the age and needs of the child.

Check your region for foster parent support groups as well. These groups provide excellent opportunities to meet other foster families and receive help.

Staff is good, only issue we have had is when the bio family causes problems, sometimes you don’t feel like you have much support. But other than that, they are good. Paula and Becky are great! And the support from some of the other foster parents is good also.

I have fostered kids directly with DHHR and Pressley Ridge Beckley Office. Pressley Ridge went above and beyond to help me with anything the child or I needed. I love everyone in the Beckley Office ❤️
